Jack Larue Shaffer was born November 20, 1928, to Goldie Fern Disney and Thomas Fisher Shaffer on a farm east of Pond Creek. Jack had two brothers, Gene and Mike "Bud", and five sisters; Mildred, Joan, Dorothy, Donna Lea and Joyce. All deceased but Dorothy Avery, Joyce Overton and Joan Bushnell.
Jack married Louise Roberts on January 17, 1950. From this union four children were born, twins, Martha Jean Walls and Mary Jane Hagermann and two sons; Samuel Thomas Shaffer and Lucas Eugene Shaffer. The sisters at St. Mary's Hospital and Grandad Shaffer named the twins and Jack named the boys. He named Sam after the two granddads, Tom Shaffer and Sam Roberts.
Luke was born on Elvis's birthday and named after his Navy buddies and brother Gene and Luke Youngblood. Jack loved all of his children which also includes four grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren and one great-great grandson.
Jack served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War. After his discharge he helped several farmers. Jack worked as a mechanic and road foreman for Grant County District 3 for 38 years. After his retirement he enjoyed hunting of any kind. He was trustee for the town of Jefferson and served as National Weather observer for 40 years.
Funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 12, 2021, at the First Baptist Church, Pond Creek, OK officiated by Pastor Les Washnock. Interment will follow at the Pond Creek Cemetery. Military rites by the U.S. Navy Honor Guard.
Memorials may be made to the Oklahoma Medical Research for Lymphoma. Arrangements by Wilson Funeral Home, Pond Creek, OK.
