Laura Elizabeth Rackley, born Oct. 8, 1956, in Fort Eustis, Va., and went home to be with the Lord on Monday, May 23, 2016. Her father was career military, so the Rackley's moved frequently living in Virginia, Alaska, Tennessee, Oklahoma, New Delhi, India, and the last overseas assignment in Jakarta, Indonesia.
When they returned to the United States, her family dropped her off at Oklahoma Baptist University on their way to their next assignment. Laura graduated from OBU in May 1978, Summa Cum Laude, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing.
After graduation, Laura worked at Oklahoma Memorial Hospital in Oklahoma City for three years, taught for a year at Mid-Del VoTech and then moved to Fort Worth, Texas, in 1983, to attend Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.
She graduated with a Master of Arts in Religious Education in 1986. Laura worked at Medical Plaza Hospital while she attended seminary and continued there for nine years. She worked on the medical surgical unit, and the last seven years in the Outpatient Day Surgery Unit. She felt her calling to be working with either singles or women's ministry while pursuing her nursing vocation. She attended Birchman Baptist Church in Fort Worth, and was very involved with the single's ministry and choir.
In 1996, Laura felt directed to do something new in her career, and that came with her next job at Cigna Healthcare in Los Colinas, Texas. She had many roles working with prior authorization, supervisory and management operations, ending with being a Nurse Executive/Clinical Consultant working with both clients and physician groups. This was her favorite role, as it was like doing patient teaching at a population level.
While working, Laura continued to be very involved in church singles' ministries and women's ministries, as well as choir and hand-bells. For eight years she was also involved in Bible Study Fellowship.
She had been living in Frisco, Texas, and a member of Stonebriar Community Church since 2003. One of her favorite pastimes was making handmade greeting cards. She also loved attending the symphony and opera, as a season ticket holder, with her many friends. Laura was preceded in death by her father, Jerry D. Rackley.
She is survived by her mother, Ina Lou Rackley; brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Lisa Rackley; nieces, Erica, Emma and Elise, as well as a host of friends and co-workers.
Laura will be laid to rest in Pond Creek 11 a.m. on Wednesday May 25, 2016. Arrangements by Wilson Funeral Home, Pond Creek.
A memorial service to celebrate Laura's life will be held at Stonebriar Community Church at a later date.
Memorials in Laura's name may be made to Oklahoma Baptist University, to the Racily Family Scholarship for Nursing, through Wilson Funeral Home, Pond Creek.
