ENID, Okla. — Joan Page, 72, passed away on Sunday, May 4, 2014, at Midland Hospice in Topeka, Kan. Joan was born Aug. 31, 1941, in Enid, Okla., the daughter of Ralph Zickefoose and Veva (Kuykendahl) Zickefoose.
She grew up on a farm in Grant County about 6 miles west of Pond Creek. Her future husband, Bob, lived on a farm only a mile away. Joan’s mother, Veva, taught them both at the Jefferson Grade School the year that Joan was in the third grade and Bob in the fourth. They grew up knowing each other’s grandparents, cousins and other family.
Joan and her parents later moved to Enid, where she graduated from high school and started at Phillips University. She later completed a B.S. degree in art education at Kansas State University.
Bob and Joan were married Sept. 2, 1962, at her parents’ home in Enid and had two children. They lived in Massachusetts for eight years and then made their home in Manhattan, Kan.
For the last several years, Joan has enjoyed trips to Australia with her husband and the adventure of sailing their sailboat across the Pacific from Australia to Washington state via stops in Tahiti and Hawaii.
Joan was a member and baptized at Grace Baptist Church and served her Savior and Lord with joy. She was active for many years in the Christian Women’s Club, Grace Baptist Women’s Fellowship and teaching ladies Bible studies.
She enjoyed researching family genealogies and working as a volunteer at the local genealogy library. Other hobbies included reading, photography, walking and sewing. Joan loved to make quilts and was active in quilt guilds in Australia, Washington and Kansas.
Joan was employed for several years as a payroll accountant and substitute teacher, but her joy was being a homemaker. Her love of God, family and friends was seen in her generous, loving spirit.
Joan is survived by her husband, Robert L. Page of Topeka; son, Wayne Page and wife Chris of Topeka; and daughter, Lorelei Baker and husband Brad of Murphy, Texas. She also is survived by five grandchildren.
A celebration of her life will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 7, 2014, at Grace Baptist Church, Manhattan, Kan., with visitation starting at 9 a.m. A graveside service will be 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 7, in Pond Creek Cemetery, Pond Creek, Okla.
Memorials can be made to the Grace Baptist Church Missions Fund and left in care of the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home, 1616 Poyntz Ave., Manhattan, KS.
Condolences may be left for the family through the funeral home website at www.ymlfuneralhome.com.
