December 31, 1967 - September 24, 2020

The family of Jay Lee Overton would like you to join them in a celebration of life on Wednesday, September 30th, at 10:00 a.m. at the Pond Creek Hunter School auditorium, officiated by Pastor Jerrod Dumond. Interment will follow in the Pond Creek Cemetery.

Jay Lee Overton was born on December 31st, 1967, to Joyce and Ernest Overton, Jr., in Enid and passed from this life on September 24, 2020.

Jay had a fondness for farming at an early age, often playing with toy farm equipment. Even as a boy he dreamed of the day he would work the land. He lived his entire life in the Pond Creek area, graduating from Pond Creek High School in 1986. He was a member of the State Champion Football team that year, regaling their victory often. He was also a member of the Pond Creek FFA Chapter and was selected as the Western Region American Star Farmer and went on to win the American Star Farmer Degree, which earned him a second trip to Europe. He stated "farming is a way of life for me, one which gives me an indescribable sense of joy and happiness every day." He started with just 5 acres and expanded to 860 acres and grew his stocker/feeder program from 160 to 600 head just during his time in FFA. He was also named Star Agribusinessman of America. In addition, he was a top 10 finalist in the national computers in agriculture competition and a state winner for ag mechanics proficiency. He continued to grow his wheat and cattle operation throughout his lifetime and continued to appreciate and support the FFA.

Jay attended N.O.C. in Tonkawa and graduated with a degree in agricultural economics and computer science. He then returned home to his farm operation which he loved, worked, and grew with single-minded determination.

Jay was blessed shortly after with the birth of two children,. Jay often referred to his daughter Jalyn Ann-Marie as "a 93 model" and his son Jevan Jay "a 98 model". He loved his children dearly and considered them the pride of his life.

Jay lived his life to the fullest every minute of every day. He had a very giving heart, always helping friends in the community in times of need.

Jay met his soulmate and kindred spirit Denette (Stacy) in 2016. They fell madly in love and shared a passion for motorcycles and spending time together, be it just sitting on the porch of their home watching the sunrise or set or traveling the country. They were married July 6th, 2020, in a beautiful service at their home surrounded by close family and friends.

Jay has been a wonderful son to his mother, helping her with the farm operation after his father's untimely passing. He was a loving brother, looking out for his sister Joy, to the best of his ability. He desired to be the best father he could be every day of his life. He was the most dedicated and loving husband to Denette. He was a wonderful friend, honest and forth-coming. He was a no-nonsense type of man and yet loved to party with the best of them. Just a few weeks before his death, he shared with Denette a song that he really enjoyed titled "Pour Whisky on My Grave". In the song, it states: "When my time's up, don't let the good times be gone. Let me still go out like I wanted to go. Kickin' it up and drinkin' with my boots on with a rebel soul."

Jay is survived by his wife, Denette (Banta) Overton; his children, Jalyn and husband Benjamin Tyson of Navarre, FL, and son Jevan Overton of Pond Creek, OK; his mom, Joyce Overton, and sister Joy and husband Jeff Scott all of Pond Creek, OK; two grandchildren, Fynlie James and Barrett Marshall Tyson of Florida; as well as nephew Seth Scott and Niece Kelsey Scott and extended family.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ernest Overton, Jr., and brother, Jeff Overton.

The family asks in lieu of flowers for donations to be made to the Pond Creek Hunter FFA chapter. Arrangements by Wilson Funeral Home, Pond Creek, Oklahoma.
