Norma Dean Nelson, of Wichita, Kan,, passed away on Friday, May 5, 2017, at Kansas Masonic Home (KMH) in Wichita, Kan. Her death came following several days of care at Wesley Hospital in Wichita. Norma was 81 years old, and had lived at KMH for the past several years.
Norma was born Nov. 15, 1935, to Russell and Helen Nelson, in Enid. Her early years were spent in Oklahoma with her parents. Following the birth of her brother Allen Lynn Nelson in 1942, the family then moved to Wichita. Norma was a 1953 graduate of East High School in Wichita. Her dad retired from Boeing, and her mom from TG&Y. She became a career woman, working for the Wichita office of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). Norma retired in December 1995, after nearly 40 years in her chosen profession. Norma was a devout daughter and sister, together with Allen, caring for her parents when their health declined, and later for Allen when he also became ill.
Russell, Helen, and Allen all pre-deceased Norma, and each was most grateful for the care, love, and support that she gave to them.
Norma is survived by several cousins, Mary H. Leenerts, Papillion, Neb.; Charley Hobbs, Fuerth, Bavaria, Germany; Cynthia Hobbs, Hastings, Neb.; James Nelson, Tucson, Ariz.; and Monty Nielsen, Manhattan, Kan.; and other family, and friends, especially Pat and Fred Frazier, Wichita, Kan.
A graveside service is 2 p.m. Thursday, May 11, 2017, at Pond Creek Cemetery in Pond Creek. Arrangements are by Wilson Funeral Home of Pond Creek.
Memorials may be made to the Pond Creek Cemetery.
