Pond Creek Cemetery


Mass of Christian burial for Emil W. Glow, 75, of Hennessey, will be 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 2, 2010, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Hennessey. The Rev. Roberto Quant will officiate. Burial will be at 1 p.m. in Pond Creek Cemetery with military rites conducted by Navy Honor Guard. Ar-rangements are by Wilson Funeral Home , Pond Creek.

He was born Jan. 31, 1934, in East Otto, N.Y., to Emil and Emma Otillia Hein Glow and died Fri-day, Dec. 25, 2009, at St. Mary's Regional Medical Center.

He served in New York National Guard 106th Field Artillery from 1951 to 1953 before joining the Navy Nov. 21, 1953, and attended pipe fitter school. He was assigned to USS Lake Champlain; USS Tarawa; USS Randolph; USS Constellation; USS Klondike; Naval Air Facility at El Centro; Naval stations Chu Lai and Da Nang, as a Naval adviser; and USS Dixon.

His military honors included European Occupation and National Defense with Star Awards, four Good Conduct medals, four Vietnam Service and four Naval Reserve awards.

He retired from the Navy in 1974 as chief hull technician, then worked as a water plant operator in El Centro, Calif., for 17 years.

He married Mary Dillon Feb. 26, 1969, in El Centro. She died April 21, 1994. He married Virginia Streck Sept. 4, 1998, in Hennessey.

He was a member of Hennessey Senior Citizen Center, St. Joseph's Catholic Church, USS Lake Champlain Association and Good Sam Club.

Surviving are his wife, Virginia, of the home ; eight stepchildren, Jodie and June Streck of Hennessey, Deborah Dunn of Coldwater, Kan., Barbara Allinder of Tulsa, Michael Streck of Kremlin, Helen Streck of Palo Alto, Calif., Kay Streck of Hennessey and Susan Underwood of Still-water; one sister, Mabel Underberg of Springville, N.Y.; 18 stepgrandchildren; and nine stepgreat-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to USS Lake Champlain Association or Hennessey Senior Citizen Center.
