Virgil Couchman, age 88, funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 22, 2006, at First Christian Church with Rev. Ronnie Hopkins officiating with interment following in Pond Creek Cemetery under the direction of Wilson Funeral Home, Pond Creek.
Virgil was born January 11, 1918, in Red Star, Arkansas, to Lee and Dollie Hodge Couchman. He died Saturday, March 18, 2006, in Medford Nursing Home.
He married Laura Kraus December 24, 1939, at Nash, Oklahoma. He and Laura farmed and did custom harvesting. They have lived in Pond Creek 68 years. They were members of several area square dance clubs from 1955 - 2004. He enjoyed antique car parades.
Survivors are his wife, Laura Couchman, Pond Creek; one son, Jim Couchman and his wife Jan of Medford; one daughter, Sharon Couchman Sidwell of Enid; two brothers, Albert Couchman and Charlie Couchman, Washington state; two sisters, Virgie Lolly and Nora Rhoton, Washington state; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Delmer Couchman and Ed Couchman, two sisters, Annie Gish and Viola Kurp, and son-in-law, Jess Sidwell.
Memorials are Hospice Circle of Love, Enid, or Pond Creek Cemetery Association or charity of choice.
