ENID — ENID, Okla. — The funeral for Edsel L. Cole, 70, longtime resident and businessman of Pond Creek, will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 10, 2010, at First Christian Church, Pond Creek. The Rev. Donna Gilchrist will officiate with music by Sallie Lamb. Burial will be in Pond Creek Cemetery . Arrangements are by Wilson Funeral Home, Pond Creek. Visitation will be 7-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Edsel was born June 29, 1940, in Enid to Hazel Marie Kenton and Arthur Wendell "Red" Cole and died Monday, Sept. 6, 2010, in Enid.
He attended school in Pond Creek, graduating in 1960.
He married Wanda Mae Ferris June 30, 1961, in Pond Creek. He worked for International Harvester in Enid until 1966, when he returned to Pond Creek to work for George Crist Motor Co. In 1973, he and his brothers formed a partnership, Cole Brothers Pontiac-Buick. He retired in 1992 due to declining health. He was active in Pond Creek Lions Club, where he served in many capacities. Some of his favorite activities with the Lions Club were the broom sales, community Easter Egg Hunt and, of course, eating everyone's dessert at the meetings.
He was preceded in death by a sister; his parents; and his wife, Wanda.
Surviving are three children, Cynthia D. Newman and Lindell of Waukomis , Rod W. Cole and Buffy of Pond Creek and John W. Cole of Enid; two brothers, Wendell D. Cole and Mary Ann, Robert N. Cole and Shirley, all of Pond Creek; and one sister, Mary C. Ables and Leon of Mulvane, Kan.; and five grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Pond Creek Ambulance Association and Fire Department, Pond Creek Cemetery Association, OMRF, multiple sclerosis or arthritis, Pond Creek Lions Club or any other charity of donor's choice.
