ENID — Merle Wesley Ascue, 94, of Lamont, Okla., passed away Saturday, June 2, 2012, in Hillcrest Manor Nursing Center,
Blackwell, Okla. He was born Sept. 30, 1917, in Kingman, Kan., to Frederick “Lee” and Emma “Ethel” (Tyson) Ascue.

Graveside memorial service will be 10 a.m. today, June 7, 2012, in Pond Creek Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Anderson Funeral Home, Tonkawa, Okla.

Merle grew up in Pond Creek, graduating from Pond Creek High School. He worked at the Lockheed Aircraft plant before enlisting in the U.S. Navy in June 1945, where he served
aboard the USS New Jersey and was honorably discharged in 1946.

He married Dorothea Sharkey Feb. 23, 1941, in Wichita, Kan. They celebrated 71 years of marriage before she passed away May 18, 2012.

They moved to the Lamont area in 1953, where he was a farmer.

Merle is survived by his son, Steve Ascue of Lamont, Okla.; daughter, Saundra Sue Bates of Rockledge, Fla.; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; brothers, Furl and
Dwayne Ascue, both of Tonkawa; and numerous other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.

Memorials may be made to charity of choice.
