The funeral services for Bill York, 84, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, February 11, 2023, at Bethel Hawley Baptist Church, Hawley, Oklahoma, with Pastor Gary Lillie officiating. Burial will follow at New Home Cemetery, Nash, with arrangements by Wilson Funeral Home of Pond Creek.
Bill was born on July 29, 1938, to William LeRoy York and Alma M. Yoder. He joined his Heavenly Father on February 8, 2023.
He married LaVona L. Messenger on August 5, 1960, and from this union they welcomed two daughters: Janet and Lisa. Bill and LaVona lived and farmed in the Nash area. Bill served in the National Guard 45th Infantry. He was also very active in the Nash Community, serving on the Jet-Nash School Board, as a deacon at the First Baptist Church of Nash and other various community boards.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Nita.
A legacy of family is left behind: loving wife of 62 years, LaVona; their daughters, Janet and husband Larry Cokeley and Lisa and husband Myles Dershem, all of Nash; grandkids, Jeremy and Jessy Dershem, Jenna and Wesley Spencer, Jamie and Justin Hunt and Laura and Thomas Deterding; great-grandkids, Jase, Joey and Jorja Dershem, Jaxon and Payton Spencer, Braedyn, Dayton, Kamri, Jaren and Jamison Hunt. Bill is also survived by sister Pat Cronkhite of Enid, brother Tom York of Nash, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorials in Bill's name may be made to Bethel Hawley Baptist Church or the Galactosemia Foundation, with Wilson's Funeral Home serving as custodian of the funds.
