Ruby June Ackley, 87, of Canton, Okla., passed away Sunday, Jan. 12, 2014. She was born Feb. 8, 1926, in Goltry, Okla., to George and Grace (Wayman) Thorne.
Ruby married her late husband, LeRoy in 1965, and they made their home in Nash, Okla., where they enjoyed life. Ruby took over her mother’s cafe, Mom’s Coffee Cup Cafe, and after retiring in 1977 from the cafe, she went to work for Rogers Cleaners in Enid as a seamstress. She loved to cook and sew, and continued as a seamstress until she became ill and had to enter the nursing home.
They loved being a part of the racing family at Enid Speedway, where LeRoy raced cars, enjoyed playing cards and loved camping.
She moved to Canton in 1997 after the death of her husband. She loved living close to her daughter, Bobbie, until she became ill and moved to the nursing home in 2008, where she lived until she went to be with the Lord.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, LeRoy Ackley, one sister, one brother and one daughter, Debbie Beasley.
She is survived by two daughters, Sharon Adams of Lufkin, Texas, and Bobbie McVicker and husband Terry of Canton, Okla.; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2014, in New Home Cemetery, near Nash, Okla., with Pastor Lucas White officiating. Interment will follow under the direction of Haigler-Pierce Funeral Home, Canton.
Memorials may be made to Nash Fire Department or American Lung Association through the funeral home at P.O. Box 36, Canton, OK 73724.
