ENID, Okla. — MANCHESTER — Darrel F. Miller, 82, died Wednesday, May 8, 2013. He was born Jan. 23, 1931, to Hugh and Lucy Arabell (Loomis) Miller.

He married Velma Cantrell Oct. 29, 1954.

She survives, along with children Randall Miller, Brenda Parks, Martha Hess; brothers, Alden and Alfred Miller; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral service 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 11, 2013, at Manchester Christian Church. Burial in Manchester Cemetery. Visitation 3-7 p.m. Friday at Prairie Rose Funeral Home, Anthony, Kan.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to the church or the cemetery.

Darrel Foster Miller was born January 23, 1931 in Anthony, Kansas, son of Hugh Durham and Lucy Arabell (Loomis) Miller.

On February 27, 1951, Darrel was inducted into the United States Army. He served his country during the Korean Conflict until his Honorable Discharge on February 26, 1954. Darrel returned home and was united in marriage with Velma Miller on October 29, 1954. This union was blessed with three children: Martha, Brenda and Randall. The family made their home on a farm south of Manchester. Darrel had a great love for farming and spent his entire life enjoying it until his health forced him to retire. Darrel was a member of the Manchester Christian Church, the Midian Shrine, and was a Master Mason at Medford Masonic Lodge #108 A.F. & A.M. On May 8, 2013, Darrel passed away peacefully at his home south of Manchester at the age of 82 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hugh and Bell Miller and two brothers, Carlton and Leland Miller.

Darrel will be deeply missed by his wife, Velma Miller, of the home near Manchester; his children: Martha Hess and husband Bud of Anthony, Brenda Parks of Manchester and Randy Miller of Manchester; brothers, Alden Miller and wife Sarah and Alfred Miller and wife Ruth; 5 grandchildren: Rebecca Hess, Brian Hess, Rodney Hess, Jimmy Parks, and Jenny Wills and husband James; 2 great grandsons, Kalib Hess and Scott Wills; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services were held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 11, 2013 at the Christian Church in Manchester, OK, with Pastor Jeff Enabnit officiating. Tracy Morris sang “Take My Hand Precious Lord,” “Wayfairing Stranger” and “Hellelujah I’m Ready to Go,” accompanying his self on his guitar. Sue Harden served as the prelude/postlude pianist.

Military interment was held at the Manchester Cemetery with Military Honors by Fort Sill Honor Guard. Honorary casket bearers were Carl Miller, Larry Miller, Fred Miller, David Miller, Graydon Miller, Kalib Hess, Scott Wills, Joe McCray, John Dye, Harry Swartz and Joe Kegin. Casket bearers were Rodney Hess, Brian Hess, Jimmy Parks, James Wills, Roger Miller and Marty Miller.

Memorials in memory of Darrel may be made to the Manchester Cemetery or to the Manchester Christian Church and may be sent in care of the funeral home. Prairie Rose Funeral Homes, Inc., 602 E. Main St. ~ Anthony, KS 67003, was in charge of arrangements. www.prairierosefuneralhomes.com
