Lamont Cemetery


The funeral for Milo K. Whitehead, 77, of Medford, will be 2 p.m. Thursday, March 26, 2009, at First Christian Church, Lamont. The Revs. Bobby Smith and Jeff McReynolds will officiate. Burial will be in Lamont Cemetery. Arrangements are by Tonkawa Funeral Home, Tonkawa. Family visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today at the church.

He was born Oct. 5, 1931, in Enid to Kenneth Howard and Myrtle Susan Maxey Whitehead and died Sunday, March 22, 2009, at The Servant Living Center, Medford.

He grew up west of Lamont. He attended Pleasant Ridge Rural Elementary School and graduated from Lamont High School in 1950. He was in FFA and received his master farmer’s degree his senior year.

He married Billie Lou Cowen Feb. 14, 1951, in Lamont. They made their home on his parents old home place, where he farmed and attended farm equipment auctions. He also did work for Hagel Auction in Kansas City, Kan., for six years in the late 1960s. He worked as a carpenter, building the Johnson Grain Terminal in Enid and did custom haying. He was a member of First Christian Church, serving as deacon and on the church board. He was a member of Lamont Lions Club, Blackwell Elks Lodge and Enid Moose Lodge.

Surviving are his wife, Billie Lou, of the home; one daughter, Maxie Kay Skaggs of Lamont; two sons, Brad Lynn Whitehead and Ross Evan Whitehead, both of Lamont; one brother, Dale Whitehead of Kansas City, Mo.; two sisters, Betty Prilliman and Sybil Webster, both of lamont; nine grandchildren; four stepgranddaughters; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by an infant grandson.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home, 400 E. Grand Ave., Tonkawa, to First Christian Church of Lamont.
