Lamont Cemetery


January 25, 1923 - December 29, 2010

Robert G. “Bob” McBride passed away Wednesday morning, December 29, 2010, in the INTEGRIS Blackwell Regional Hospital, Blackwell, Oklahoma, at the age of 87 years.

Bob was born on January 25, 1923, to A.J. and Amanda (Robertson) McBride southwest of Lamont, Oklahoma, on the homestead his father acquired in the Land Run. He graduated from Lamont High School in 1941 and was Salutatorian of his class. While attending college, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and served in the 97th Infantry Platoon as an M.P. in World War II, where he received a purple heart while serving in the European theatre. On May 8, 1949, he married Jean Yeager in Lakin, Kansas, and they settled in Oklahoma City. In 1952, they moved to Wichita, Kansas, for a short time before moving to Blackwell to make their home. Bob was employed with a concrete company before beginning his law enforcement career in the late 1950s with the Blackwell Police Department, where he became Blackwell’s first detective then later retired as assistant chief in 1986. His wife, Jean, preceded him in death in July of 2004. He married Geraldine “Jerry” Gaither in 2005 and they continued making their home in Blackwell. Bob was a skilled carpenter and helped build many homes in the Blackwell area. He enjoyed woodworking, farming and gardening.

He is survived by his wife, Jerry, of Blackwell, daughter, Pat Anderson and husband Fred, of Blackwell, sons Dean McBride, of Silsbee, Texas, and Jim McBride and wife Lea, of Blackwell, grandchildren Gay Fleming, of Blackwell, Mike Anderson and wife Tina, of Blackwell, Jeff McBride and Dolores Arbuckle, of Blackwell, Shelli Rainey, of Bartlesville, G.R. Anderson, of Blackwell, Amanda Anderson Smith and husband, Jason, Ponca City, Ryan LeGrand and wife, Cecy, of Guadalajara, Mexico, and Kalea McBride, of Blackwell, great-grandchildren Ashlee, Trenten, Kimberlee, Christina, Braden, Hannah, Jack, Alyssa, Ace, Adrienne, Lauryn, Landry, Jimmy, Gracie, Brooke, Tanner, Bailee; a brother-in-law, John Yeager and wife Velma of Enid, Oklahoma; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, five sisters and daughter-in-law, Mae.

Visitation will be held Sunday, January 2, 2011, from 1 p.m. until 9 p.m. The family will be present from 4 p.m. until 5 p.m.

Services will be held at Roberts and Sons Chapel, Blackwell, Oklahoma, at 10 a.m. Monday, January 3, 2011. The Reverend Kevin Bookout will officiate. Burial will follow at the Lamont Cemetery, Lamont, Oklahoma, with military rites performed by the Blackwell Fraternal Order of Police and Blackwell Police Department.

Casket bearers are Tod Yeager, Mark Yeager, Ben Yeager, Mike Day, Vince McCool and Bobby Brown. Honorary casket bearers are Jack Bookout, Millard Kelly, Roger Kelly, Dennis Kelly, Dean Bay, Walter Yeager, Gary Yeager, Bill McBride and Jack McBride.

Memorials may be made in his honor to the Blackwell Public Library, c/o Roberts and Sons Funeral Home.
