October 7, 1948 - July 11, 2020

Don Troy Kirby II passed on July 11, 2020 at home near Lamont Oklahoma from a 15-month fight against esophageal cancer. Don was born to Norma and Don Kirby in Enid in 1948 and grew up on the family farm between Lamont and Pond Creek. Don went to Oklahoma State University in 1967 at the age of 17. He joined the Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity, where he gained many lifelong friends. They are part of his family. He considered them brothers by choice. After graduating from OSU, he returned to the family farm. He spent a great deal of time flying his airplane and traveling all over the US. In 1989, Don toured South Africa, appreciating their culture and agricultural practices. Among other things, he rode an ostrich and made friends that he remained in contact with for the rest of his life. He was married to Mary Fogle Kirby from 1989 to 2008, and they had two children, Justin Kirby in 1991 and Rachel Mendenhall (ne้ Kirby) in 1993. Don was a faithful member of the First Christian Church of Lamont, Oklahoma, serving as an elder and on the board of directors. He was also a lifelong learner who read volumes of books and strived to share his knowledge with anyone he could help. Don was a hard worker. He loved his life on the farm and has said many times that he would not have chosen any other way.

He is preceded in death by his father, Don Kirby, and his grandfather Troy Kirby. He is survived by his children, Justin Kirby and Rachel Mendenhall, his grandson, Nolan Mendenhall, his mother Norma, his brother Roger, his sister Sue, two nephews, two nieces, and their children.

Funeral service will be 2:30 p.m., July 16, 2020, at the Lamont First Christian Church officiated by Rev. Jeff McReynolds. Interment will follow in the Lamont Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Lamont Cemetery Association through the Lamont State Exchange Bank. Arrangements by Wilson Funeral Home, Pond Creek.
