Lamont Cemetery


The funeral for John Franklin Futhey, 48, of Hunter, will be 2 p.m. Monday at Mark Price Arena. The Rev. Bob Smith will officiate. Burial will be in Lamont Cemetery. Arrangements are by Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.

He was born Sept. 1, 1957, at Enid to Frank and Lydia Zad-ny Futhey and died Wednesday, April 19, 2006, in Enid.

He grew up in Salt Fork and graduated from Lamont High School in 1975. He attended Oklahoma State University, graduating in 1979, with a degree in mechanical engineering.

He was a member of Lamont Christian Church, serving as deacon, and was involved with the youth. He was a leader with Lamont Boy Scouts.

He was Grant County Commissioner of District 2 for eight years and a reserve deputy for Grant County Sheriff’s Department. He then became chairman of the Garfield County Public Safety Authority and for the past two years has been Northwest District Fire Coordinator for Northern Oklahoma Development Association. He was the first volunteer firefighter elected to the Oklahoma State Firefighters Board. He was serving as first vice president and was slated to be president next year.

Surviving are his aunt, Gladys Hembaugh, and several cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Hunter Volunteer Firefighters Association or American Heart Disease Association.
