Lamont Cemetery


The funeral for Jack L. Cowen, 72, of Warr Acres, formerly of Lamont, will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Forest Hill Christian Church, Oklahoma City. The Rev. Jerl Joslin will officiate. Burial will be 2 p.m. in Lamont Cemetery. Arrangements are by Tonkawa Funeral Home, Tonkawa.

He was born July 22, 1935, in Lamont to William Lewis and Florence Bennett Cowen and died Friday, Sept. 28, 2007, at his home.

He graduated from Lamont High School. He served in the Army during 1958 and 1959 as a radio relay and carrier operator. He was a member of Masonic Lodge and Shrines. He married Shirley Lois Long June 8, 1963, in Blackwell. She died Jan. 18, 1995.

Surviving are three sons, Mark Schmitt of Cushing, and Travis Cowen and Tracy Cowen, both of Oklahoma City; two daughters, Mary Beth Smith of Oklahoma City and Barbara Ann Kuntz of Bethany; one sister, Billie Lou Whitehead; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife Shirley.
