Bernita Ruth Aldrich
March 3, 1930 - May 24, 2023
Bernita Ruth Aldrich of Blackwell, Oklahoma, died Wednesday morning, May 24, 2023, in the Quail Ridge Memory Care in Oklahoma City at the age of 93 years.
Bernita was born on March 3, 1930, in Enid, Oklahoma, to Guy and Opal Hardwick. She grew up in Lamont attending Lamont Public Schools. As a young girl she joined the Rainbow girl's chapter in Lamont. Having just returned serving during World War II, she met Harold Aldrich and they were married on July 16, 1947. Following their marriage they moved to a farm north of Lamont where they began their farming operation and she quickly learned the hardships of being a farmer's wife. Like most young couples they also raised chickens, had Jersey milk cows and managed to acquire cow calve pairs. In 1960 they built and operated the Dairy Rama for ten years where she worked while raising her four young children. She ironed clothes for everyone in the family, including handkerchiefs and had only quit ironing six months ago. In 1964, they purchased a home in Lamont until purchasing a farm west of Lamont in 1971. They lived there until 1996 when they retired and moved to Blackwell to make their home.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church and served hundreds of meals for banquets, funerals and special events. Following their marriage she joined the Willing Workers Club and the Lamp Lighters Club.
She is survived by her husband, Harold Aldrich of Oklahoma City; children, Charlotte Sturtz and husband Frank of Houston, Texas, Stan Aldrich and wife Wendy of Shawnee, Tony Aldrich and wife Sandra of Edmond, and Lanita Hereford of Houston, Texas; twelve grandchildren; and twenty five great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and a son, Gary Aldrich.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her honor may be made to the charity of choice in c/o Roberts and Son Funeral Home, 120 W Padon, Blackwell, OK 74631
