Mrs. A. Pittenger Claimed by Death
Medford, October 2 – (Special) – Mrs. Alice Pittenger, 65, a resident of Grant County since the opening of the Cherokee strip, died Sunday afternoon at an Anthony, Kansas, hospital.
She had recently undergone a major operation following a period of failing health.
Funeral services will probably be held Wednesday. Burial will be made in the Hawley Cemetery under the direction of Hills funeral home.
Mrs. Pittenger was born at Wichita, Kansas, July 17, 1879. She came to Grant County at the Strip opening in 1893 and lived for many years on a farm south of Wakita. She moved to Medford about eight years ago.
She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Undine Biby of Wakita and Mrs. Fern Ransom of Anthony, Kansas; three sons, Glenn Elswick of Enid, Clyde Elswick of Ponca City and Chief Warrant Officer Hugh Elswick, serving with the Marines in the southwest Pacific, and one sister, Mrs. Mabel Koons of Rio, Illinois.
