Melvin D. Gilchrist, 59, Wakita, passed away at 10:20 AM on Monday, May 16, 2016, in Oklahoma City. The funeral service for Melvin D Gilchrist will be 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 21, 2016 at Hawley Baptist Church, north of Nash. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Friday, May 20, 2016, at Wilson Funeral Home in Pond Creek.
Melvin lived around Wakita most of his life, attended a country school through fourth grade, and graduated from Wakita High School in 1975.
He married Pamala Kay Barnett in September 1978, and they lived in Alva and attended college at Northwestern Oklahoma State University. He graduated with a BS Degree in Agri-Business in 1980.
They bought a farm and moved back to the Wakita area in 1984. Melvin farmed and ranched all of his life, and worked for the State of Oklahoma for 15 years. He was a member of a nondenominational church.
Melvin was survived by his wife, Kay Gilchrist of Wakita; two sons, Jesse Gilchrist and wife, Kayla of Alva; Justin Gilchrist of Wakita; and one daughter, Kaylyn Robertson and husband, Russell of Hope, Ark.; one sister, Darlene Bergman of Pond Creek; one brother, George Gilchrist of Wakita; and two precious grandsons, Klarc and Kanon Gilchrist of Alva. He is also survived by several nephews and nieces; aunts and uncles and many cousins.
His parents, Marvin and Fayetta Gilchrist preceded him in death.
Melvin liked nothing better than having his family around him and loved when his grandsons came to spend time at the farm.
