Hawley Cemetery


April 3, 1876 - July 28, 1958

Louis M. Best, 82 , pioneer resident of the Gore community, died at an Enid Hospital Monday.

Services were conducted at 9:30 a.m. Thursday in the Free Methodist church six miles south of Wakita, with Rev. Robert Green of Caldwell officiating. Burial was in the Hawley Cemetery.

Best was born in Calumet, Mich., April 3, 1876 , and came to Oklahoma with his parents at the opening of the Cherokee Strip.

He is survived by his wife, Elsie, of the home; two sons, Carl Best , Wakita, and Clarence Best, Nash; a daughter , Mrs. Opal Biby, Nash; two sisters, Mrs. Cathryne Payne, Medford, and Mrs. Grace Johnson, Enid; nine grandchildren and ten great grandchildren .
