Henry Family Bio
Submitted by: Chet Henry

I have visited the website of Grant County cemeteries, however, I can't seem to locate the particular cemetery my grandfather, Hugh Ellis, Charity Ellis and I think Earl Ellis and his wife Ella are buried there. Old grandfather, Hugh, was shot to death in Grant County courthouse in 1935, as I recall. He was the janitor for the courthouse. Later, his son Earl Ellis took over the janitorship for many years. As a youngster he hired to me to dust and clean the 1st main floor.

I am trying to locate the cemetery where they are buried. In the '90s my wife and I located it out West on Hwy 11, probably at least 4 to 6 miles west of Medford. I was on the south side of Hwy 11 and covered with weeds. I located the grave stones and the wife and I cleaned the area as best we could.

I cannot recall the name of the cemetery, if it ever had one, but there were many pioneer graves there. My grandfather, Hugh, was in the Land Run of Oklahoma in 1893. This was the 2nd land run for acreages in northern Oklahoma. I think it started in the pan handle.

My mother, Eva Marie Ellis-Henry is buried next to her parents this the cemetery I refer to. I am 86 and have given thought to be buried next to my mother in the same cemetery.

Mr. Shroads, if you could help me, it would be greatly appreciated. Joann Bramlett's daughter, Linda, sent me a map, but I am not sure the name is Pleasant Hill as is indicated on the map.

Joann Reed-Bramlett was a classmate of mine. I entered the U.S. Navy in my sophomore year at age 16, but I did manage to graduate with my class in 1946 due studying during my Naval career.

Thank you for your time.
