Martin Evert McClaflin of Blackwell, Oklahoma, died Saturday morning, July 12, 2014, at the Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas at the age of 61 years.
Martin Evert McClaflin was born on November 6, 1952, in Blackwell, Oklahoma, to Evert Leroy and Nadine Ella (Engelhardt) McClaflin. He attended Braman Public Schools and graduated with the class of 1972. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1972 serving as a mechanic and retired on June 20, 1992. He married Mary Louise McClaflin on December 26, 1974, in Newkirk, Oklahoma. At a young age, he built his own hot rod and enjoyed riding motorcycles. He also enjoyed hunting deer, collecting hats, and fishing and camping with his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Louse McClaflin of Blackwell, Oklahoma; mother, Nadine Ella Mills of Tonkawa, Oklahoma; two daughters, Monica Tanner and husband John of Nardin, Oklahoma, and Marlene McClaflin and boyfriend Shane Backus of Blackwell, Oklahoma; two sons, Martin McClaflin and fiancé Rebecca of Ponca City, Oklahoma, and Michael McClaflin and wife Misty of Blackwell, Oklahoma; three brothers, Charles McClaflin and wife Phyllis of Arkansas City, Kansas, Tommy McClaflin and wife Donni of Arkansas City, Kansas, and Jerry McClaflin and wife Donna of Braman, Oklahoma; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father; one brother, Darwin McClaflin; step-father, George Mills; and good friend, Joe Hatcher.
Services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Thursday, July 17th, at the Roberts and Son Funeral Home Chapel in Blackwell with Rev. Ratliff of the First Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow in the Bayard Cemetery in Deer Creek, Oklahoma. Military rites will be performed by the United States Army.
Casketbearers will be John Tanner, Martin McClaflin, Kenneth McClaflin, Billy Moore, Kevin McClaflin and Shane Backus.
Honorary casketbearers will be the grandchildren and great grandchildren of Martin McClaflin.
A memorial has been established with the Braman American Legion c/o Roberts and Son Funeral Home, 120 West Padon, Blackwell, Oklahoma 74631.
