Fern Hohmann of Liberty, Missouri April 21, 1930 - February 8, 2023
Fern Hohmann, formerly of Deer Creek, Oklahoma, passed away the morning of February 8, 2023, in Liberty, Missouri, at the age of 92 years.
Fern Nadine (Krehbiel) Hohmann was born on April 21, 1930 to Ben and Helen (Albright) Krehbiel of Pretty Prairie, Kansas. After high school graduation, she graduated from Bethel Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing in Newton, Kansas. She maintained friendships with classmates from nursing school for most of her life. Fern continued her education and earned a Bachelor’s of Science degree in nursing from the University of Colorado in Boulder. During her nursing career, Fern was employed as a surgical nurse.
In 1955, Fern married Carl Hohmann at Pretty Prairie Mennonite Church. They made their home in Kansas during the early years of their marriage. In 1959, they moved to Deer Creek, OK to run the family farm. Fern was focused on her family, serving in the Deer Creek Mennonite Church and using her nursing knowledge and skills to aid her local community.
Fern enjoyed music and was an accomplished pianist. In addition, she was dedicated to ensuring that all her children learned to play the piano.
Carl and Fern enjoyed traveling and took various trips to see family, attend Kay Electric events, and explore the local area on road trips. They traveled to Norway to visit their daughter, who was living there. One memorable trip for Fern, later in her life, was visiting her sister Phyllis and her family in California.
While she was challenged with dementia and limited mobility, Fern still displayed her sense of humor and personality.
Fern is survived by her four children, Karla Leuenberg (Brian), Max Hohmann (Becky), Tresa Hohmann, and Kyle Hohmann (Nancy); seven grandchildren, Garrett Hohmann (Stacie), Katelin Kysar (Preston), Greg Hohmann (Kayla), Kellan Hohmann (Janise), Jared Hohmann (Kelly), Adam Hohmann, and Jason Leuenberg; and twelve great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Phyllis (Krehbiel) Schmidt, niece, Tracy (Schmidt) Olson (Dan) and family, and sister-in-law Florine (Hohmann) LeClerc.
