ENID, Okla. — Johnnie was born Jan. 26, 1925, near Gibbon, Okla., the youngest of seven children born to Frank and Elma Mitchell Byers. She passed from this life on Friday, Aug. 8, 2014, at Community Health Center in Wakita, Okla.
Johnnie attended Gibbon and Wakita schools, graduating from Wakita High School in 1942.
She and Glen D. Evans were married Oct. 9, 1946, in Anthony, Kan. They farmed and raised their family near Sand Creek.
Johnnie worked at Wakita grocery stores for many years.
She was a member of Fairview Christian Church of Sand Creek and also of Wakita Christian Church, as well as Fairview Ladies Aid.
Johnnie was preceded in death by her husband, Glen, on Feb. 22, 1985, her parents, two brothers and four sisters.
She is survived by her son, Dee Evans and wife Shelly; daughter, Valarie Zaloudek and husband Monte, and daughter, Nedra; seven grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Johnnie’s celebration of life service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2014, at Wakita Christian Church, with Pastor Jeff Enabnit officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, near Sand Creek. Arrangements are under the direction of Lanman Funeral Home Inc., Medford, Okla. Memories may be shared at www.lanman memorials.com. Viewing will be 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. today, Aug. 12, 2014, in Medford.
The family has requested memorials be made through the funeral home to Wakita Christian.
