©Rush Springs Gazette 6 November 2003 Richard O'Neal "Slim" Garner Richard Slim Garner, 83, of Rush Springs, died Wednesday, October 29, 2003 in Grady Memorial Hospital Chickasha. Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m., Friday, October 31 in the Callaway-Smith-Cobb Chapel in Rush Springs with the Reverend Danny Vaughn officiating and can bake in assisting . Music was by Sandra Payton and Sonjia Dalrymple. Burial was in Westview Cemetery, Rush Springs. Mr. Garner was born March 15, 1920, and Chickalah, Arkansas, the son of Tom Garner and Ethel Parker Garner. He and Bessie Garner were married May 19, 1938 in Ola, Arkansas. She died October 24, 2002. He was also preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister. He was in the US military during World War II, serving on the USS Alabama. He lived in the Rush Springs area since 1955. He was employed in the oilfield. He enjoyed gardening, farming, fishing and hunting. Survivors include two sons, Charles Garner and wife Judy and Tony Garner and wife Debbie, all of Rush Springs; a daughter, Shirley Meadows and husband Dub of Rush Springs; seven brothers, Hayes Garner, Joe Garner, Lloyd Garner and Ray Garner, all of Louisiana, Tommy Garner of Texas City, Texas, Wendell Garner of Farmington, New Mexico, and Winferd Garner of Louisiana; three sisters, Winnie Fowler of Danville, Arkansas, and Ann Garner and Gracie Wilson, both of Louisiana; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were Shane Hardzog, Luke Lundgren, David McKay, Kyle McKay, David Lynn Meadows, Jamie Slate. Honorary pallbearers were Walter Dennis, John Dorman, Lloyd Hendrix, James Ince, and Donnie McKay. |

©Duncan Banner 25 Oct 2002 Carrie Bessie Garner RUSH SPRINGS ~ Carrie Bessie Garner, 80, of Rush Springs died Thursday, Oct. 24,2002, in Grady Memorial Hospital in Chickasha. Service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in the First United Methodist in Rush Springs with the Rev. Harold Wheeler and the Rev. Danny Vaughn officiating. Burial will be in Westview Cemetery in Rush Springs under the direction of Callaway-Smith-Cobb Chapel of Rush Springs. Mrs. Garner was born May 5,1922, in Ola, Ark., to Sid and Carrie McKee Snuggs. She married O'Neal "Slim" Garner on May 19, 1938, in Okla. Mrs. Garner was a homemaker and lived in Rush Springs for 47 years. She enjoyed cooking, especially rolls, coconut pies and chicken and dressing. She loved gardening and flowers. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Rush Springs. Survivors include her husband of the home; two sons and daughters- in-law, Charles and Judy Garner and Tony and Debi Garner, all of Rush Springs; a daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and G.W. "Dub" Meadows of Rush Springs; seven grandchildren; nine great- grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, eight brothers and four sisters. Bearers will be David Meadows, Don McKay, David Dennis, Kirby Sheperd, James Ince and Joe Kuntz. Honorary bearers are Johnny Heard, John Dorman, Don Kirkpatrick, Walter Dennis, Art Harris, Lloyd Hendrix and C.D.
