John A. Wood

John Wood, prominent pioneer citizen of Verden succumbed Tuesday night about 1015 o'clock. Mr. Wood had been in declining health a number of years and his passing was not a shock to his many friends. His wife passed away December 10, 1933.

Mr. Wood, before his health failed, was a very active worker in the Methodist church, having served many years as superintendent of the Sunday school and holding other offices of the church. Mr. Wood took a great interest in singing, he had a very pretty voice for tenor and his voice could be heard no matter how large a crowd he was singing with. Mr. Wood, not only was interested in church work, but took interest in all activities to the up-building of Verden and community, he was a kind loving father to his family, his neighbors held highest respects to him and all his dealings.

A character of Mr. Wood's type lives on while he has gone on to where he has prepared a home with good deeds and kindness during his daily life here.

The funeral will be held here at the Methodist church Friday at 230 o'clock with the pastor, Rev. N. T. Peak officiating. Interment will be made in the Verden cemetery beside his wife.

He is survived by a son and daughter, Cecil Wood and daughter, Mrs. Lola Whitley and other relatives and friends.
