© The Verden News Verden, Oklahoma May 14, 1937 Ben Wilson 1859 ~ May 10, 1937 Uncle Ben Wilson, an old settler of Verden and community, passed away Monday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. J. W. Threadgill near Cement, with whom he had made his home the past two years, since the death of his wife. There is no language at our command by which we can fittingly portray the sincerity of this man's Christian character; and in the experience of a lifetime, the writer hereof can safely say, we never met one who seemed to more nearly walk hand in hand with God. To man, woman or child, saint or sinner, he always extended a cordial greeting that lent a ray of light to brighten their pathway in the journey of life. He commanded the respect of all classes of people, as the attendance at his funeral fully verified. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the Baptist church with Rev. P. F. Harmon officiating and interment made in Verden cemetery. Uncle Ben reared his family in this community and had many friends here. He was 78 years of age. Surviving members of the family include four children, Mrs. J. W. Threadgill, Mrs. Florence Swaim of Oklahoma City, W. W. Wilson of Cement, several grandchildren and great grandchildren and one brother, J. T. Lawson of Waco, Texas. |

© The Verden News Verden OK July 30, 1908 Rupert Wilson 1907 ~ July 26, 1908 Little Rupert, aged one year and four days, only child of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Wilson died Sunday at one o'clock. This precious baby boy was sick and a constant sufferer with bowel trouble for over four weeks. At times it seemed that the little fellow was improving and then he would get worse again, till at last it was called from its sufferings to "the Rest prepared for the children of God," and crossed to the "beautiful home over there." Funeral services were held at the Baptist church Monday afternoon conducted by Rev. Harman and the remains of this precious treasure were tenderly laid to rest on the hill south of town Sleep on in thy beauty Thou sweet angel child, By sorrow unblighted By sin undefiled. Like the bird of the ark Thou hast flown to thy rest From this wild sea of strife, But laden with golden wheat. |
