September 2, 2011 Orval Ray Willis Funeral service for Orval Ray Willis, age 87 of Verden, will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2011, in the Verden First Baptist Church. Rev. Troy Taylor will officiate and Rev. Rodger Willis will assist. Orval Ray Willis was born the son of Rufus Willis and Ella Belle Martin Willis on June 23, 1924, west of Verden. He went to be with the Lord on Sept. 2, 2011 at his home in Verden surrounded by his family. Orval lived in the Broxton community where he attended school. He entered the United States Army during his 11th grade year and served in World War II. He served for one year in Japan as part of the occupation forces at the end of the war. After his service, he came back to Verden and married Owita Perdue on January 17, 1947, in Anadarko. They established their home on the family farm north of Verden where they raised their family. In 1968, they moved from the farm to Verden. Orval worked for Chickasha Mobile Homes and Perdue Housing before starting his own home construction business called Courtesy Builders. While he was building homes, he continued to farm and raise cattle. He loved and was very proud of his family and extended family. He attended all the sporting events and activities of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He was also known to attend the sporting events of other kids in the community. Orval was always willing to help anyone. Orval was a member of the Verden First Baptist Church. He was also a member of the American Legion and a past member of the Verden City Council. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rufus and Ella Willis, three brothers, Tommy Lee, Charlie, and Marvin Willis, two sisters, Nona Mae Miller and Thelma Willis, son, Allen Ray Willis, and daughter-in-law, Samantha Willis. Survivors include: Wife: Owita Willis of Verden; Daughter & Husband: Nancy & Steve Heavin of Verden; Granddaughter: Christy Edelen of Chickasha; Grandson: Waylon Heavin of Verden; Granddaughter: Andrea Roberts of Chickasha; Grandson: Allen Willis, Jr. of Bakersfield, Calif.; Granddaughter: Angela Willis of Bakersfield, Calif.; Grandson: Adam Willis of Bakersfield, Calif.; Grandson: Austin Willis of Ft. Bragg, NC; 14 Great Grandchildren; Sister: Nelda Ross of Verden; Many Beloved Nieces, Nephews, Extended Family Members, and a Host of Friends. Interment will be in the Verden Cemetery. Service will be under the direction of the McRay Funeral Home, Chickasha. |

Allen Willis was born the son of Orval Willis and Owita Perdue Willis on November 21, 1950, in Chickasha, Oklahoma. He died on July 20, 2005, in Verden after a short battle with cancer. Allen grew up on the family farm north of Verden. He graduated from Verden High School and was active in FFA. Allen worked for Perdue Housing and later sold cars for several years. He married Samantha Pearson in 1994 in Las Vegas, Nevada. For the past ten years, Allen had been a coast to coast truck driver. Survivors include his wife, Samantha, of the home; son and wife, Allen & Mary Willis of Bakersfield, California; daughter and husband, Angela & Jess Smith of Bakersfield, California; son and wife, Adam & Kami Willis of Bakersfield, California; son, Austin Willis of Bakersfield, California; stepson, Jeremy McLain of Kansas; stepdaughter, Maranda Jones of Ponca City; parents, Orval & Owita Willis of Verden; sister and brother-in-law, Nancy & Steve Heavin of Verden; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins & friends. Interment will be in the Verden Cemetery. Service will be under the direction of the McRay's Verden Funeral Home. |
Friday, July 23, 2010 Samantha Jewel [Smart] Willis Samantha Jewel Willis, resident of Newkirk, passed away Friday, July 23, 2010 in St. Louis, Missouri. She was 59. Samantha was born March 1, 1951 at Camp Chaffee, Arkansas, the daughter of Alvin Lee Smart and Alice Bernice [Parker] Smart. She was a graduate of Stewart County High School in Lumpkin, Georgia. She was married to A.J. Allen Willis on December 1, 1995. Samantha was employed as a truck driver with the Tennessee Steel Haulers Company out of Nashville, Tennessee. She was a member of the Word of Life Christian Center in Ponca City. Her enjoyments were singing, the outdoors, gardening, and anything having to do with sharing the Word of God. She especially enjoyed her time spent with her grandchildren. She is survived by her two children, Miranda Randol and husband, Luke, of Newkirk and Jeremiah McLain of Phoenix, Arizona; two sisters, Cindy Comer and husband, David, Ponca City and Janna Garcia and husband, Tony, of Arkansas City, Kansas; four grandchildren, Jewelliann, Angel, Cash and Tobias. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; paternal grandparents, Thomas and Bertie Smart and maternal grandparents, James and Ora Parker. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 28, 2010 at the Word of Life Christian Center with Pastor Bob Innis presiding. Interment will follow at 4 p.m. at the Verden, Oklahoma Cemetery with Roger Willis presiding. Arrangements are under the direction of Grace Memorial Chapel. Casket bearers will be Lucas Randol, Dustin Garcia, Jerry Ingram, Doug Stuemky, Travis Garcia, Tony Garcia, David Comer and Nick Randol. |
October 15, 2013 Rodger Doyle Willis Funeral service for Rodger Doyle Willis, age 61 of Verden, Oklahoma, will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 19, 2013 in the Spring Creek Baptist Church. Phillip Willis and Rev. Edward Whitley will officiate. Rodger Doyle was born the son of Marvin Willis and Alberta Moser Willis on January 19, 1952, in Chickasha. He died on October 15, 2013 at his home north of Verden. Rodger grew up in the Pocasset area and moved to the farm north of Verden as a teenager. He graduated from Verden High School then attended Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee for one year. Rodger then met Linda Kay Brinkman and they were married August 19, 1972 in Topeka, Kansas. After a couple of years in Topeka, they moved back to the Verden area. Rodger farmed and was the preacher at the Spring Creek Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Alberta Willis and his wife, Linda. Survivors include his daughter and husband, Tammy and Peter Lefebvre of Verden; son and wife, Phillip and Shanna Willis of Verden; four grandchildren, Sharee, Shelton, Shafer and Shadrick; brother and wife, Jerry and Marla Willis of Powderly, TX; brother and wife, Charles and Terry Willis of Anadarko; brother and wife, Tim and Peggy Willis of Cement. Interment will be in the Verden Cemetery. Service will be under the direction of the McRay Funeral Home. |
February 11, 2012 Linda Kay [Brinkman] Willis Funeral service for Linda Kay Brinkman Willis, age 59 of Verden, Oklahoma, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 17, 2012 in the Spring Creek Baptist Church. Rev. Rodger Willis will officiate and Rev. Troy Taylor will assist. Linda Kay was born the daughter of Emery Louis Brinkman and Jessie Bert Frederick Brinkman on September 26, 1952, in Topeka, Kansas. She died on February 11, 2012 in Kansas City, Kansas. Linda grew up in Topeka, Kansas where she graduated from Washburn High School. She married Rodger Willis on August 19, 1972 in Topeka, Kansas. They moved to the farm at Verden in 1975. Linda was a graduate of USAO and received her masters at UCO in Edmond. While attending UCO, she worked at Caddo Kiowa Technology Center as a Food Service Instructor. She also taught Family Consumer Science at Chickasha High School. She loved her family and enjoyed playing with the grandkids. She was a member of the Spring Creek Baptist Church where she played the piano and taught Sunday School for many years. She was preceded in death by her father, Emery Brinkman, and brother, Gary Dee Brinkman. Survivors include: Husband: Rodger Willis of the home, Daughter: Tammy Willis of Charlotte, North Carolina, Son & Wife: Phillip & Shanna Willis of Verden, Three Grandchildren: Sharee, Shelton, & Shafer Willis , Mother: Jessie Brinkman-Webb of Topeka, Kansas, Brother & Wife: Ron & Sharon Brinkman, Brother & Wife: Dennis & Vera Brinkman, Sister & Husband: Cherie & Bud Carter, Several Nieces, Nephews, Other Relatives & Friends Interment will be in the Verden Cemetery.
