Archie F. Williams

Archie Williams was born at Albany, Mo., February 3rd, 1892, died at Chickasha May 9th, 1921, age 29 years, 3 months and 6 days.

He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. R. P. Williams, former citizens of this vicinity, but who now reside near Chickasha, besides his parents he leaves to mourn his departure, two sisters, two brothers, a number of near relatives and a host of friends.

He served his country during the late war over seas being a member of the 6th Div. 11th Field Artillery and was afterwards attached and served with the 89th Div., Field Artillery.

He was a member of the Independent Order of Oddfellows of this place, also a member of the American Legion, both of which orders officiated at his funeral, which was held at the M. E. church. The Rev. Sawyer of Chickasha preached the funeral sermon, after which one of the largest gathering of people ever witnessed on an occasion of this kind followed the car bearing his body to its last resting place in the city of our silent dead.

With a heavy heart we would drop a tear to the memory of Archie Williams.

His death has brought the bitter cup of sorrow to the lips of friends and relatives. His was a heart of gold. He was of nature's nobelmen in its truest sense, brave, generous, manly. His was the soul of honor, and his friends and friendships were sacred to him.

It is sad at any time to stand beside the bed of the dying and watch life's ebbing tide drifting the loved one slowly, perhaps, but surely into the great ocean of eternity, but when there comes whispering from parched lips; "Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death I will fear no evil, Thy rod and Thy staff they comfort me," brings a balm to the wounded heart. Thus closed the life of this noble young man.

To the broken hearted father, mother, sisters and brothers who sit in sorrow where his footsteps shall never again find echo, we extend the sympathy of one who loved him as a brother. When they have drained the cup may the peace that passeth all understanding come to them from one who cares for each little sparrow that falls.

"Fare thee well, oh thou to memory dear!
Dust to dust, and lulled to slumber sweet;
Sleep on, forever, in the prison drear.
But in realms on his shall our spirits meet."

Nelda Elizabeth [Craddock] Williams

Nelda Elizabeth Craddock was born near Verden, April 7, 1912, and was called from this life at 10:00 a. m. Friday, July 9, 1937, at Wewoka, Oklahoma.

Nelda was reared in this community, graduating from the local high school in 1931. Her beautiful disposition made her a favorite with teachers and classmates alike.

She was united in marriage to Woodrow Williams of Anadarko on August 22, 1934, unto this union was born one tiny daughter, Mary Nell, who preceded the mother in death. No one can ever take Nelda's place with this husband, this mother, this family. May God console them!

The generous nature and tender kindness of this departed one, endeared her to all who knew her. Her happy smile brightened this world so much. What an asset she will be to heaven!

It is hard to understand why Nelda's work is finished so soon. Yet, we are grateful to a good God for these years of companionship with this lovely character. Her love and influence shall be with us always.

Nelda would not have us grieve, that was not her way of life.

For we think of her answering God's call, eagerly, as she did everything else. And while she is out there awaiting those who were dear to her and who loved her so well, we know that she is happy.

In this sad hour, may it be a comforting thought that Nelda is not gone, but only ahead of us waiting blissfully contented.

And so, as James Whitcomb Riley has said

I cannot say, and I will not say
That she is dead! She is just away!
With a cheery smile, and a wave of the hand,
She has wandered into an unknown land.
And left us dreaming how very fair
It must be, since she lingers there.
And you, - O you who wildest yearn
For the old-time step and the glad return. -
Think of her faring on, as dear
In the love of There as the love of Here.
Mild and gentle as she was brave, -
When the sweetest love of her life she gave
To simple things; - where the violets grew
Pure as the eyes they were likened to
The touches of her hands have strayed
As reverently as her lips have prayed
Think of her still as the same, I say;
She is not dead - she is just away!
