© The Mountain Enterprise Frazier Park, CA Friday, January 23, 2015 Nora Lavinia Mae [Osborne] Walker Mae L. Walker was born 10 September 1914 on a farm north of Verden, Grady County, Oklahoma. She was the daughter of Jonathan Richardson Osborne, Sr & Alice Francis [Fitzpatrick] Osborne. Also she was a gg granddaughter of both Theodore Fitzpatrick and Chief Black Beaver of the Delaware Nation and a great grandniece of William Garrard "Caddo Bill" Williams of the Verden Half Moon Ranch, all noted early Oklahoma pioneers. After college she worked in the office of an Arizona mining company as the bookkeeper. There she met Johnson Benjamin Walker. In 1938 she and J. B. married . They moved to California where they had 2 daughters. During World War II J. B., Mae and many in the family worked at the Mare Island Naval Ship Yard near Vallejo, California. In essence Mae was a Rosie the Riviter. She loved to sew and do quilting. She learned how to sew on a machine once owned by her grandaunt, Margaret [Fitzpatrick] Brooks. Mae also had as ceramic studio in San Jose, CA for many years where she taught classes. She passed away on 17 January 2015 in Frazier Park, CA at the age of 100 years, 4 months and 7 days. She was preceded in death by her husband, a daughter, her parents, 5 brothers and 2 sister. Last May she lost a favorite nephew, David Melton Osborne, of Verden, Oklahoma. Those who remain are 1 daughter, 4 grandchildren, 1 great granddaughter, 1 sister Mary, aged 97 years. She will be buried in the Osborne family plot at the Verden Cemetery, Verden, Grady County, Oklahoma. Graveside services will take place Monday, January 26, 2015, at 11 a.m. at Verden Cemetery. Service arrangements and ministry of comfort have been entrusted to Mark B. Allen Mortuary & Cremation Services of Sun Valley, CA. |
