Rev. James F. Tippett

Rev. J. F. Tippett was born March 18, 1847 in Granville county, N. C. He professed faith in Christ at the age of 19 years and united with the Baptist church at Cowee, N. C. He accepted the divine call to the Christian Ministery and was ordained to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ April 13, 1905, and was faithful to that sacred calling as long as his health would permit. He also served his country during the Civil war, serving under Captain Silar in the 39th regiment and Colonel Polk's Calvalry at Cumberlan Gap.

He was united in marriage to ........... . To this union was born 10 children, of which, she and seven children preceded him to the great beyond.

He was united in second marriage to Martha L. Williams, September 29, 1886. To this union was born 10 children, one of whom preceded him in death.

He moved to Oklahoma about January 1907 and united with the Verden Baptist church immediately after his arrival, together with his wife and three of the children.

He departed this life August 9, 1932 at the age of eighty-five years, four months and twenty-one days, and leaves an aged wife and twelve children: A. L. Tippett, Culberson, N. C., T. C. Tippett, Atlanta, Ga., W. T. Tippett, Franklin, N. C., Rev. Charles Tippett, Oklahoma City, and Lee, George and Frank Tippett, and Mrs. Cora Foster, Mrs. O. H. Hall, Mrs. Ted Janssen, Minnie and Margaret Tippett, all of Verden, Oklahoma.

He also leaves a number of grand and great grandchildren together with a host of friends to mourn his departure.

Funeral services were held at the Baptist church at Verden Wednesday morning.
