SERVICES FOR PIONEER RESIDENT HELD SUNDAY Funeral services were conducted at the Baptist Church Sunday afternoon for a pioneer resident of Verden community, Mrs. Laura Sears, 92, who died Tuesday night, July 24, at her home seven miles northeast of Chickasha. Rev. C. W. Taylor officiated and the Brown Funeral Home, Chickasha, had charge of the arrangements. Burial was in the Verden cemetery.
Music was furnished by the church choir.
Pallbearers were Roy Wasson, Frank Jasperson, Earl Wiley, Charles Morris, George Culbertson and R. Odom.
Laura Malissa Zumwalt was born September 27, 1852, at Attica, Indiana, and passed away at her home, Amber, Oklahoma, July 24, 1945, at the age of 92 years, 10 months and 27 days.
She went to Missouri when a young woman and there was married to Alfred F. Sears in 1883. To this union was born three children. Her husband preceded her in death.
She was converted and became a member of the Methodist Church in her youth.
She moved with her family to Oklahoma in 1903 and settled on a farm northeast of Verden where she made her home for 27 years before moving to Grady County.
"She was loved by all and lived a faithful life until she was called away."
Surviving members of the family include three sons, Arthur of San Bernardino, California, Warren of Corpus Christi, Texas, and Robert of Chickasha, four grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and a host of friends.
