Earl Ray Pettit

Funeral service for Earl Ray Pettit, age 67, of Verden will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 29, 2005, at the Pentecostal Lighthouse in Verden. Rev. H.O. Robertson will officiate and Rev. Ed Whitley and Rev Jr. Hogue will assist.

Earl was born the son of Abra Pettit and Cora Ricketts Pettit on October 24, 1938, in Tuskahoma, Oklahoma. He died on November 27, 2005, at his home in Verden.

In 1955, Earl entered the U.S. Air Force and served until 1959. During his life, he worked as a guard at the McAlester Prison, a lineman for Cable TV, and a welder for Hart Manufacturing and Jermaine Manufacturing in Chickasha. He also worked for the Oklahoma Highway Department. In 1978, Earl began work as a deputy for the Grady County Sheriff's Department. He retired from the Sheriff's Department in 2001 with twenty-three years of service. After retiring, he worked for McVey's Sod Farm. In his spare time, he loved to hunt, fish, and camp.

Earl grew up around Clayton, Oklahoma and lived many places in his life. However, he spent the majority of his life in Verden with his loving wife, Wanda. He and Wanda were married on March 11, 1967, in Oklahoma City. Earl loved his wife, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Earl was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Stacy Fred Pruett, and two grandsons, Donnie Hogue and Clay Cabaniss.

Survivors include: Wife: Wanda Pettit of the home; Son and wife: David and Gay Pettit of Alex; Daughter and husband: Cathy and Junior Hogue of Haskell, OK; Son and wife: Rick and Patsy Pettit of Verden; Son and wife Junior and Chris Pettit of Verden; Daughter: Lisa Kamp of Jenks, OK; Son: Rob Bonner of Purcell, OK; Seventeen Grandchildren; Four Great Grandchidren; Special friend A.J. Choat.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Pentecostal Lighthouse in Verden.

Interment will be in the Verden Cemetery. Services are under the direction of the McRay's Verden Funeral Home.
