James D. Newton
RITES HELD IN VERDEN FOR PIONEER Verden, Feb. 4 - (special) - Funeral services were conducted Thursday in the Verden Baptist Church for James D. Newton, 90, who died Tuesday at his home in Verden.
Rev. George Gaidoroff, pastor, officiated and burial was in the Verden Cemetery under the direction of the Hansen Funeral Home, Verden.
In the services, a trio composed of Mrs. Donald Brown, Mrs. Harry Dodson and Mrs. John Kern sang three numbers. They were accompanied by Mrs. Herschel Melton at the piano.
Pall bearers were John Kern, Kirby Whitley, C. B. Dabney, Johnnie Whitley, Harry Dodson and Dank Pitts.
Newton was born April 23, 1860 at Spencer, Iowa. Before coming to Oklahoma, he had lived in Kansas and Arkansas.
On July 27, 1929, he married Mae Perkins at Anadarko. Newton was a retired farmer and had been in failing health for several years.
Survivors are one brother, John Newton of Wichita, Kansas; his wife, 13 children, 51 grandchildren and 63 great grandchildren.
