January 13, 1928Charles Patrick McLane
The home of Mr. and Mrs. Jack McLane, who reside about six miles west of Verden was made very sad Sunday, when their son Charles accidentally killed himself with a gun. It was reported to us that he and a sister were riding home together when Charles saw some birds he said he was going to shoot, and in getting the gun it discharged, killing him instantly. Charles Patrick McLane was born January 11, 1900 and departed this life January 8, 1928, reaching the age of 27 years, 11 months and 27 days. The funeral was held here at the Baptist church Tuesday afternoon with Rev. Taylor in charge of the funeral services.
There was a large crowd in attendance and a very beautiful floral offering displayed. Charles was one of Verdens popular young men among the young people, one of his boy friends sang a beautiful solo at the funeral service. He leaves to mourn his departure, his mother and father, three sisters and two brothers, a host of relatives and friends.
Note: Charles Patrick McLane was the brother of Anna [McLane] Molina, Grace [McLane] Taylor, Sudie [McLane] Dysart, Timothy C. & Jackson McLane, and Grandson of Elihu Burgin Osborn & Lucy Jane [Beaver] Osborn Pruner.
