LAST RITES HELD FOR EMMETT HENRY JULY 20 Funeral services for Emmett Henry were held at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, July 20, 1958, at the First Methodist Church, Verden, Oklahoma. Rev. Elvin Waters, Ponca City and Rev. O. W. York, Verden, officiated. Burial was made by Hansen Funeral Home in Verden Cemetery with rites conducted by members of the local Masonic Lodge.
Music was furnished by Mr. and Mrs. L. E. Seago, Mrs. Donald Brown and Mr. O. L. Davis who sang "Amazing Grace" and "Nearer My God To Thee," accompanied on the piano by Mrs. Velma Eskew. Mrs. Brown sang a solo, "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere."
Casket bearers were Carl Simmons, George McVey, Roy Nicholas, Alfred Walker, George Tipett and Wiley Weaver.
Mr. Henry was born September 11, 1883 at Sheridan, Grants County, Arkansas, and passed away at Guthrie, Oklahoma at 1:00 p.m., July 18, 1958, at the age of 74 years, 10 months and seven days.
He was one of the early day settlers of this community, arriving in the fall of 1893 with his parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Henry who homesteaded north of Verden. He was united in marriage December 24, 1906 to Emma Dodson at Anadarko, Oklahoma. Mr. Henry is survived by his wife and six children, Robert J., Ashland, Georgia; Mrs. Sereda Curland, Paul, and Mrs. Linday Hembree, all of Huntington Park, California; Harold in the United States Military Service; and Mrs. Jean Spears, Modesto, California; also four grandchildren. One son, James and one daughter, Frances having preceded him in death. He is also survived by one sister and four brothers, Mrs. Ernest Evans, Chickasha and Ben, Albert, Pat and Walter of Verden.
Mr. Henry was a member of the Methodist Church and the Masonic, I.O.OI.F and Rebekah lodges.
Services were attenede by a host of relatives and friends from various parts of the state.
