Ethel Lillian [Newberry] Gray

Funeral for Ethel Lillian Gray, 72, Verden, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 22, 1992, in Verden First Baptist Church with Rev. Edward Whitley of Cyril officiating.

She was born Sept. 8, 1920, the daughter of William Frederick Newberry and Louise Pelzer Newberry, south of Verden. She died Oct. 19, 1992, in Chickasha.

Ethel married William Julian Gray on Sept. 29, 1937, in Chickasha. Ethel and her husband farmed outside of Verden and attended the Verden Pentecostal Church of God. She took care of 38 fostoer children for six years and babysat for over 250 children over the years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and two grandchildren, Roger Dale Lange on Oct. 24, 1984, and Lisa Diane Gray on Feb. 9, 1977.

Survivors include her husband, William J. Gray of the home; seven children, Kenneth Jeral Gray of Bagley, Minn., William Walter Lange of Oklahoma City, Dorothey Jean Woods of Verden, Sadie Pearl Varley of Verden, Carol Joyce Schmidt of Rush Springs, Catherine Sue Hooper of Chesapeake Beach, Maryland, and Brenda Ann Anthony of Verden; one brother, Arthur Newberry of Sunol, Calif.; one sister, Rosie White of Cement; 20 grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren.

Interment will be in Verden Cemetery under the direction of Hansen-Binyon Chapel of Brown-Binyon Funeral Home.
