© The Verden News Verden, Oklahoma June 1, 1956 February 24, 1866 ~ May 30, 1956 TOM GRAVES SERVICES HELD TODAY Services for Mr. Tom C. Graves, 90, of Chickasha, father of Mrs. Mars Turner and Billy Graves of Verden, will be held at 2 p.m. this afternoon, June 1, at the Assembly of God Church on South Fifth and Colorado in Chickasha with the pastor, Rev. Roper officiating. Music will be furnished by the church choir and burial will be in Verden Cemetery. Mr. Graves died at 6:30 a.m. Wednesday in a Chickasha hospital. He had been in failing health the past three years. He was born February 24, 1866 in Carme, Ill. He had been a resident of Grady County the past 49 years, living at Verden before moving to Chickasha about 30 years ago. He was a retired farmer-stockman. His wife preceded him in death in June, 1952. Survivors include six children, Tommy Graves of Kermit, Texas; Billy Graves of Verden; Johnny Graves with whom he made his home, Chickasha; Mrs. John Yoder, Chickasha; Mrs. Fred Nail, Azusa, Calif., and Mrs. Mars Turner, Verden; 34 grandchildren, several great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. |

Graves, 82, of Chickasha, were held in the Assembly of God Church Wednesday afternoon. Rev. John Taft officiated. Burial was in the Verden Cemetery. Mrs. Graves died at her home 12:45 a.m. Tuesday. She had been in failing health the past two years. She was born Feb. 8, 1870 in White County, Illinois. She and her husband and family lived in Grady County the last 34 years and on a farm near Verden for several years, then later moved to Chickasha. She was a member of the Assembly of God Church. Survivors include her husband Thomas, Chickasha; three sons, Tommy, Kermit, Texas; Bill, Verden and Johnny, Chickasha; three daughters, Mrs. Nettie Youder, Chickasha; Mrs. Lucy Turner, Verden and Mrs. Mary Nail, Azusa, Calif; 34 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren. |
© Chickasha Star Chickasha, Oklahoma May 27 1965 October 1, 1899 ~ May 14, 1965 LONG TIME RESIDENT DIES Funeral services for William LeRoy Graves were held at 2:30 p.m. May 17 in the Pentecostal Church of God with Rev. Ed. Whitley, pastor, of the Verden church. Graves was born Octo ber 1, 1899 in White County, Ill., and died May 14, 1965 in an Anadarko nursing home after a prolonged illness. He was married to Miss Alice Bell on Jan 5, 1919, southwest of Verden, where he farmed until retiring. He was a member of the Pentecostal Church of God in Verden. He is survived by his wife, Alice, of the home; two sons, LeRoy of Verden and Richard of Hayward, Calif.; two daughters, Mrs. May Carpenter of Stockton, Calif., and Mrs. Velma Young of El Reno; two brothers, Johnnie Graves of Chickasha and Thomas E. Graves of Kermitt, Texas; three sisters, Mrs. Nettie J. Yoder and Mrs. Lucy Turner of Chickasha and Mrs. May Nail of San Clemente, Calif,; 12 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Interment was in Verden Cemetery under the direction of Hansen Funeral Home |

Anadarko, Oklahoma September 18, 1990 January 3, 1920 ~ September 17, 1990 VERDEN - Services for Ollie Mae Graves, 70, of Verden will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Verden Pentecostal Church of God with Edward Whitley officitaing and Steve Orton assisting. Graves was born January 3, 1920 in Coalgate and died Monday in Norman. She was a homemaker. She grew up in Coalgate and lived in Lindsay before moving to Verden in 1952. She was a member of the Pentecostal Holiness Church in Verden. She and Leroy Graves were married in Lindsay. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and one sister. Survivors include her husband of the home; three daughters, Margaret Sue Cooper of Prague and Betty Lou James and Anita Lee Rumley, both of Verden; one son, Freddie Dean Johnson of Yuma, Ariz.; six grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. Burial will be in the Verden Cemetery under direction of the Hansen-Binyon Chapel of the Brown-Binyon Funeral Home |

C. W. Taylor officiating. Interment was in the Verden cemetery. Thomas Leroy Graves was born in Chickasha, March 28, 1945, and passed away from this life May 6 at the age of one month and eight days. Those left to mourn his departure are his parents, brothers and sisters, Michael, Dorothy, Gene and his twin, Tommie Lee; and a host of other relatives and friends. |
