© Chickasha Express~Star Chickasha, Oklahoma September 2007 February 24, 1931 ~ September 10, 2007 Chiquita Downes, 76, was bom February 24, 1931, in Verden, Oklahoma, to Melton E. and Viola [TaLkington] Osborne. She passed from this life on Monday, September 10, 2007, at her home south of Verden. Chiquita was about 7 years old when her family moved to Phoenix. She graduated from high school there, and then attended college in Phoenix. She and John Gerald Downes were married on March 31, 1951 in Phoenix. John was a career Navy man, and they lived on several Navy bases, here and overseas, before he retired. They moved from Mississippi in 1989, and made their home on a farm south of Verden. After John's death in 1994, she went to work at The Bank of Verden, and retired in 2005. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Verden. She enjoyed bowling, sewing, and was famous for her great cheesecakes. She loved taking care of her kids, grandkids, and great grandkids. She was a wonderful mom, grandmother, mother~in~law, and friend. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one son, John Patrick "Butch" Downes, and one nephew, Dane Eden Osborne. Survivors include her children, Michael J. Downes and wife Beth of Anadarko, Kelly Anne Line and Marty Flow, of Verden and Cynthia Lee Bramblet of Verden, and Casey Thomas Downes and wife Kathy of E1 Reno; a daughter-in-law, Cari Jo Downes of Chickasha; 8 grandchildren, Shon, Shane and Brent Downes, Matthew and Mikki Line, Jason and Eric Graham, and Dillion Downes, and 8 great grandchildren; one brother, David Osborne and wife Clara of Verden, and their son, David Rodney Osborne of Moore; a nephew she helped raise, John Brunning of Chicago; other relatives, her beloved bank family, and many caring, thoughtful friends. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Friday, at the 1st United Methodist Church of Verden. Burial will follow in the Verden Cemetery under the direction of Steverson Funeral Home. Viewing will be from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Wednesday, and from 9 a.m.until 9 p.m. Thursday, and from 9 a.m. until noon Friday. |

Michael Joseph Downes was born September 27, 1952 in Santa Barbara, California, the eldest child of John Gerald Downes and Chiquita [Osborne] Downes. He was a proud member of the Delaware Nation. He passed away on June 4, 2020 in Chickasha, Oklahoma. During his young years, Mike lived in many locations as his family followed his father’s naval career. At the age of 11, he moved to Oklahoma to live with his grandparents, Bud and Viola Osborne, on the family farm south of Verden. It was at this time that he met his lifelong friend James Blevins. He graduated from Verden High School in 1971. On January 19, 1973, he married Sheri Monroe and to this union two sons were born. On August 8, 1994, Mike married Beth Bell and to this union a son was born. He started working at Western Farmers Electric Cooperative on his 21st birthday and worked there nearly 40 years. He was a transmission lineman. Mike enjoyed traveling across the United States and traveled many miles with family and friends on his Honda and later Harley motorcycles. He was preceded in death by both parents, brother John Patrick “Butch” Downes, nephew Eric Graham, and cousin John Brunning. Services are under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home. |

Butch was born December 19, 1957 in Bremerton, Wash., and died Sunday, August 2, 1992 in a one-vehicle accident on S.H. 92, just south of Chickasha, in Grady County. © Chickasha Express~Star Chickasha, Oklahoma November 7, 2023 July 10, 1961 ~ October 30, 2023 The family and friends of Casey Thomas Downes, 62, of Cement, gathered at the family farm on Saturday, November 4, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. to celebrate his life. Casey was born July 10, 1961 in Riverside, California. He went to his Heavenly home on Monday, October 30, 2023 at his home. Casey was the baby of five children and the third son of John Gerald Downes and Chiquita [Osborne] Downes. When he was three years old, the family moved from California to the Verden area, where he grew up on the family farm. At 10 years old, he became an apprentice to his Uncle Jack Fowler, welding in Verden. He graduated from Verden High School in 1979. Casey made a 45-year career working in the oilfield, a majority of those years right along with his brother Butch. He had worked with Unit, Bronco, Nicor and Lofflan Brothers companies and he also worked for Key Energy out of El Reno. Casey was a proud member of the Delaware Nation. He played the guitar one handed, he loved classic rock music, with Ian Moore being one of his favorite artists. He enjoyed working on the farm and he loved his family. He always saw the good in people and would help anyone out if he could. He was preceded in death by both parents, his brothers Michael Joseph Downes and John Patrick "Butch" Downes, sister Cynthia Lee Bramblett, nephew Eric Patrick Graham and late spouse Kathy Marie [Willis] Downes. Loved ones left to remember him are his son Dillian Downes and wife Tiffany of Lindsay; former spouse Diana Lee of Lindsay; sister and brother-in-law Kelly and Marty Flow of Cement; his partner Tonya Seifried and son J.T. Seifried of Cement; grandchildren Trissity Downes of Lindsay, Hanna Downes of Oklahoma City, and Dyllan Drake Downes of Lindsay; nephews and nieces Shon Downes, Shane Downes and wife Jennifer, Matthew Line, Mikki Line, Jason Graham and wife Angela, Brent Downes, Kaden Seifried, Sebastian Seifried, Brooke Horn and Emily Twohatchet; and other extended family and friends.
