WALTER DOUGHTY SERVICES HELD SUNDAY, MAY 2

Last rites for Walter Doughty were conducted at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in the First Baptist Church with Rev. Kenneth Elkins, pastor, officiating assisted by Mr. C. L. Hunt. Interment was in the Verden Cemetery with the Hansen Funeral Home in charge.

Music was rendered by Mrs. J. N. Kern, Mrs. C. W. Hamill, Mrs. Harry Dodson and Mrs. Donald Brown who sang "What A Friend" and "When I Get To the End of the Way." Mrs. Brown sang "Holy City." Mrs. I. H. Bilbrey was pianist.

Casket bearers were Lee Fowler, Harry Dodson, Houston Beene, Paul DeBoard, Roy Wasson and Donald Brown.

Walter Doughty was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee, August 24, 1874 and passed away in a Chickasha hospital April 30, 1954 at the age of 79 years, 8 months, 6 days.

He moved to Springtown, Texas in 1881 where he attended the public schools and the Baptist college. He was united in marriage to Anna Austin, November 7, 1897 at Reno, Texas. In 1916 they moved to Chickasha where he was engaged as a partner in the Doughty-McDonald Wholesale Grocery. He moved to Verden in 1933 here establishing a grocery business and remained here until the time of his death.

He was converted at the age of 30 being baptized on Easter Sunday. He was a member of the Baptist Church.

Those left to mourn his departure are his wife; one brother, L. C. Doughty, Duncan; one twin sister, Mrs. Ella McClung, Dekalb, Texas; also a host of other relatives and friends.

LAST RITES FOR MRS. DOUGHTY HELD FRIDAY

Funeral services for Mrs. Annie Austin Doughty, 79, were held Friday, February 17, at 11 a.m. in the First Baptist Church at Verden with Rev. Marvin Willis officiating.

Mrs. W. A. Finley and Mrs. Harry Dodson sang Old Rugged Cross, Beautiful Isle. They were accompanied by Mrs. Don Brown, Mrs. Brown, accompanied by Mrs. Finley, sang Face to Face.

Pallbearers were Paul DeBoard, Harry Dodson, Houston Beene, Roy Wasson, Don Brown and Debs Patterson. Interment was in Verden Cemetery under the direction of Hansen Funeral Home.

Mrs. Doughty was born April 1, 1882 at Springtown, Parker County, Texas, and died February 14 at Dungan Nursing Home in Chickasha.

She was married to Walter Doughty on November 7, 1897 and moved to Chickasha in 1917 where they were in the wholesale grocery business. In 1929 they moved to Verden and operated a grocery store until the time of his death in 1954. Mrs. Doughty was a member of the Baptist Church and Eastern Star chapter.

Survivors are two nieces, Mrs. Lillian Korfhage of Dallas and Mrs. Ivy Horn of Duncan.
