© Chickasha Star Chickasha, Oklahoma May 27, 1939 January 30, 1863 ~ May 26, 1939 Verden, May 27 - Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock at the First Baptist church for Robert Emerson Dodson, age 76 years, 3 months and 26 days who died at his home three miles north of Verden Friday morning after a few weeks illness. Mr. Dodson was married November 6, 1889 to Miss Ada Jane Burnette in Hood county, Texas, and to this union nine children were born. One daughter, Mrs. Edith Harp, preceded him in death, November 20, 1934. Mr. and Mrs. Dodson moved to the Verden community in 1901 and have lived here since. Rev. C. W. Taylor, assisted by Rev. P. F. Harmon and Rev. J. D. Stout, conducted the services. |
© The Verden News Verden, Oklahoma September 7, 1951 September 9, 1873 ~ September 2, 1951 SERVICES HELD MONDAY FOR MRS. R. E. DODSON Funeral services for Mrs. R. E. Dodson were conducted at 2 p.m. Monday. Rev. C. W. Taylor officiated and Rev. G. W. gaidaroff, pastor, assisted him. Music for the service was furnnished by Mrs. J. N. Kern, Mrs. C. W. Hamil, Mrs. Donald Brown and Miss Nan Bilbrey, who sang "Old Rugged Cross," "In The Garden" and "No Night There." Mrs. I. H. Bilbrey played the piano. Casket bearers were Roy Hamrick, Alfred Walker, Lee Fowler, Debs Patterson, R. L. Berger and C. B. Dabney. Interment was in the Verden Cemetery with the Hansen Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements. Ada June Burnett was born September 9, 1872 at Granbury, Texas and passed away September 2, 1961 at 1:20 a.m. in the Chickasha hospital at the age of 78 years, 11 months and 23 days. She was married to Robert E. Dodson in 1869 at Granbury, Texas. To this union 9 children were born, 8 of whom are now living. She was a member of the Baptist Church and also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Survivors are 3 daughters: Mrs. Emma Henry, Mrs. Dora Dorris and Ms. Cecil Simmons, all of Verden; 5 sons: Frank of Okla. City; Andy of Los Angeles, Calif.; Harry E., Joe and Howard Dodson of Verden. Three sisters, Mrs. Helen Hutson of San Antonio, Texas; Mrs. Leah Hostler of Davenport, Iowa and Mrs. Florence Jones of Verden. Also eleven grandchildren, two great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. Mrs. Dodson was preceded in death by Mr. Dodson in 1939 and one daughter, Mrs. Edith Harp in 1934. |
© Chickasha Star Chickasha, Oklahoma June 29, 1989 May 19, 1895 ~ June 22, 1989 Funeral for Frank Dodson, 94, Oklahoma City, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, June 23, 1989, in the Verden United Methodist Church with Edward Whitley officiating and Rev. Frank Mitchell assisting. He was born May 19, 1895, in Granberry, Texas, the son of Robert Watson Dodson and Ada Burnett. He died June 22, 1989, in Oklahoma City. He married Rose Talkington at Anadarko in 1927. Mr. Dodson was reared north of Verden. He later served in the U. S. Army during World War I. Returning from his service in the army, he then moved back to Verden where he lived until moving to Oklahoma City in 1930. Frank worked in the oilfield for a number of years before beginning his work with Tinker Air Force Base in 1943 as a crane operator. He retired in 1966. Mr. Dodson was preceded in death by both of his parents; two brothers and three sisters; three children, Bryan Manning, Dorothy Julian, Ted Manning; and his wife, Rose Dodson, in 1975. Survivors include one son and a daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Shy Manning of Oklahoma City; two brothers, Joe Dodson and Howard Dodson, both of Verden; one sister, Cecil Simmons of Verden; three granddaughters, one great granddaughter and three great grandsons. Interment will be in Verden Cemetery, Verden, under the direction of Hansen-Binyon Chapel, of the Brown-Binyon Funeral Home. |
© Anadarko Daily News Anadarko, Oklahoma Tuesday, September 2, 1900 April 28, 1900 ~ August 29, 1986 Verden — Services for Andrew J. Dodson, 86, of Verden were to be held at 3 pm today at the Verden United Methodist Church with the Rev Ben Williams, pastor, pofficiating and the Rev Anna Hickman of Chickasha assisting. Burial was to be held in the Verden Cemetery. Dodson was born April 28, 1900 at Grandbury, Texas. He died Friday at Grady Memoril Hospital in Chickasha. He grew up in Verden and moved to California where he lived for several years until he retired from the Los Angeles Divisionof the Chrysler Corporation in 1965 where he was employed as an inspector. He married the former Jerry Gibson in 1955 in Las Vegas, Nev. Dodson returned to Verden in 1965. He was active in the chior at the Verden United Methodist Church and rang the church bell every Sunday to announce the beginning of Sunday services. He was a member of the Chickashs chapter of the Full Gospel Business Mens Fellowship International and a former member of the independent Order of Odd Fellows. He had been a steward of the Chrysler Division of the United Auto Workers. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Ada [Burnett] Dodson, one brother and three sisters. Survivors include his wife, Jerry, of the home; two daughters, Phyllis Hammons and Barbara Bair, both of Shawnee; three brothers, Frank of Oklahoma City, Bill and Joe, both of Verden; one sister, Mrs Cecil Simmons of Verden; 12 grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. |
