To this union was born eight children, three daughters and five sons of whom the five sons and one daughter survive her. In 1881 she was converted and united with the Christian church, in 1900 the family moved to Oklahoma and in 1901 located on their farm southwest of Verden, where she resided until the death of her husband which occurred on August 7, 1922, after which she made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Marie Beats of Washita, where after a long and eventful life in which she had served her generation faithfully, she passed away on Friday, November 4, 1927. Funeral services were held at the Methodist church, Saturday afternoon, the Rev. P. F. Harmon officiating and her body was layed to rest beside that of her husband. A large concourse of friends and relatives followed and paid their respects to her, who in life had been one of the world's best mothers. The floral offerings were many and very beautiful typifying the pure life she had lived. The surviving children are Mrs. Marie Beats, Washita, Lark, Jack, Jim, Zack and Sam, all were present at the funeral. Thus another good old mother has gone the way of Nature and until Nature's God her soul has been confined to life eternal. |

© The Verden News Verden, Oklahoma August 22, 1907 1894 ~ August 15, 1907 Miss Leora Crumm, aged 13 years, departed from this life last Thursday at 10 o'oclock a. m. after suffering for fifteen days with typhoid fever, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. M. H. Edens. Bright, happy and cheerful, Leora carried sunshine with her wherever she went. She had a pleasant word and a smile for her friends, always. Her death comes as a dark shadow to friends and to her relatives, who loved her so dearly. Death is a hard master. He would take from us of our brightest and best, but he cannot ever mar memory. It will serve as a balm to our wounded hearts. She left her father, three sisters and one little brother behind to mourn their great loss. Her mother having died one year ago. Funeral services were held at Dr. Edens' residence Friday, conducted by Rev. Harmon, after which the body was laid to rest by the side of her mother in our Silent City south of town. When we see a precious blossom That we tended with such care, Rudely taken from our bosom, How our aching hearts despair! Round her little grave we linger, Till the setting sun is low, Feeling all our hopes have parished With the flower that cherished so. We shall sleep, but not forgotten, There will be a glorious dawn; We shall meet to part, no never, On the resurrection morn! |
