© The Verden News Verden, Oklahoma July 23, 1920 January 6, 1849 ~ July 16, 1920 Grandma Brown Dead Mrs. Fannie Brown, mother of T. J. Lang and sister of Rev. P. T. McWhorter, died at the Anadarko Sanitarium Friday, July 16th, age 72 years 6 months and 10 days, having been born in the state of Georgia, January 6, 1849. In this state she was married at the age of 19 to James Brown who preceded her to the world beyond something like 30 years ago. She was the mother of two daughters, one of whom is Mrs. T. J. Lang of Chickasha, survives her; she is also survived by four brothers, Rev. P. T. McWhorter of this place, M. R. and D. B. and Allen who together with the surviving sisters reside in Georgia. Mrs. Brown was making her home with her daughter Mrs. Lang up to the time she was taken to the hospital to undergo an operation, she died just prior to the operation and was brought here for burial, which took place Saturday afternoon. The funeral services were held in the M. E. church conducted by the pastor Rev. Blackwood of which church she had been a life long member, internment was made in the city cemetery. A large concourse of relatives and friends attended the funeral and followed her remains to its last resting place. Having lived long and well, this Christian mother has gone home to live forever where tears of sorrow and disappointments of life are unknown.

© The Chickasha Express-Star Chickasha, Oklahoma May 31, 2002 June 11, 1922 ~ May 30, 2002 Funeral service for Iva Lee Brown, age 79, of Verden, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, June 3, 2002, in the Verden First Baptist Church, Rev. Johnny Wray will officiate, and Rev. Richard Olsen will assist. Iva Lee Brown was born the daughter of Daniel Lee Fowler and Thelma [Trout] Fowler on June 11, 1922, in Minco, Oklahoma. She died on Thursday, May 30, 2002, in Oklahoma City. Iva Lee moved to Verden as a small child. She attended Verden Schools and graduated from Verden High School. Iva Lee then attended Oklahoma College for Women and graduated with a degree in music. She taught in the Verden School System for over fifteen years. After leaving teaching, Iva Lee worked at the Bank of Verden until her retirement. She was an active member of the Verden First Baptist Church. Iva Lee served as Sunday School teacher and church organist. Iva Lee was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Don Brown, on August 13, 1996. Survivors include: son, Donald L. Brown, of Lilburn, Georgia; granddaughter, Carrie Conley, of Gainesville, Georgia; five great grandchildren. Interment will be in the Verden Cemetery under the direction of the McRay's Verden Funeral Home. |
Verden, Oklahoma August 13, 1996 August 5, 1919 ~ August 13, 1996 He was the son of Burley S. and Minnie Cox Brown and born in Bristow, OK. He served in the Army at Ft. Sill where he met Iva Lee Fowler, and they married on November 14, 1942. They made their home in Verden, OK, where he was the Verden Post Master for 30 years. He continued service with the Army Reserve, retiring with 35 years of total service. They had one son, Donnie. |
