SERVICES FOR L. S. BLEVINS HELD TODAY

Funeral services for Lee Roy Segman Blevins will be conducted at 2 p.m. today, April 30, at the First Baptist Church with Rev. John Morris of Chickasha officiating, assisted by Rev. Kenneth Elkins, pastor.

Interment will be in the Verden Cemetery.

Casket bearers are Charlie Lines, Herbert Buchannan, Arthur Ash, Clyde Ingram, Allen Watson and Adolph Handke.

Mr. Blevins passed away at Woodward, Okla., April 28, 1954, at the age of 75 years, 7 months and 25 days. He was born at Waco, Texas September 3, 1878.

He married Amada Whitley in 1897 at Gainsville, Texas.

They moved from Gainsville to near Verden in 1922 where he had since made his home. He was a farmer. He was a member of the Christian Church.

Survivors include seven sons, Sam and Carl of Verden; Andy, Johnny, Lee and Homer of Tipton, California and Horace Blevins of Arizona; four daughters, Mrs. Myrtle Welch of Walnut Grove, Calif.; Mrs. Louise Hensley, Mrs. Hattie Rhodes and Mrs. Annie Hensley of Tipton, Calif.; 51 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren

Viola Vee [Carothers] Blevins
May 15, 1912 ~ December 29, 2008


Funeral service for Viola Vee Blevins, age 96 of Verden, Oklahoma, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 31, 2008, in the Pentecostal Lighthouse Church of Verden. Rev. Patrick Wilbourne will officiate and Rev. Tommy Ray Buchanan, grandson, will assist.

Viola was born the daughter of Charlie L. Carothers and Sarah P. Hughes Carothers on May 15, 1912, in Sulphur, Oklahoma. She died on December 29, 2008, in Verden, Oklahoma.>

Viola had lived in Verden most of her life.

She married Carl C. Blevins on December 3, 1929, in Anadarko, Oklahoma.>

They farmed in the Verden area where she was actively involved in taking care of the farm. Through their farming, they grew all the food that fed their family. After the death of her husband in 1976, she continued to grow vegetables in her garden. She sold her vegetables to neighbors and friends and also gave away many of them.

Viola also loved to grow flowers, listen to the birds, crochet and quilt. However, the greatest love of her life was her family.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, four sisters, one daughter, Joyce V. Blevins, and two sons, Lloyd and James Blevins.

Survivors include: Son: Buster L. Blevins and wife, Barbara of Odessa, TX, Daughter: Fay Buchanan and husband, Lewis of Verden, Daughter: Nelda Wallace and husband, Larry of Verden, Daughter: Carlene Von Tungeln of Quanah, TX, Daughter: Loretta Cowan of Verden, Seventeen Grandchildren, Twenty-Five Great Grandchildren, Seven Great Great Grandchildren, Numerous Nieces and Nephews.

Interment will be in the Verden Cemetery. Casket bearers will be members of the family.

Service will be under the direction of the McRay Funeral Home

William Wesley "Denver" Blevins
November 23, 1915 ~ July 18, 1958


SERVICES HELD FOR DENVER BLEVINS, MON.

Funeral services for Denver Blevins were held at the First Christian Church, Verden, on Monday, Jul 21 at 2:30 p.m. with Rev. John Morris, pastor, officiating. Interment was in the Verden Cemetery with the Hansen Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

His sudden death early last Friday shocked the entire community as he had apparently been enjoying good health.

Music for the service was rendered by Mr. and Mrs. Harry Dodson, who sang "I Know Who Holds Tomorrow," Miss Linda Griffith "The Lord's Prayer" and Mrs. Hazel Ferris and DeWayne Ferris "Sweet Bye and Bye." Mrs. Donald Brown accompanied them on the piano.

Casket bearers were Chick Griffit, Dank Pitts, Phelan Mobbs, Bill McVey, Arthur McVey, Harry Dodson, and Bud Clift of Anadarko.

William Wesley "Denver" Blevins was born at Jay, Oklahoma on November 23, 1915 and passed away at his home at about 4 a.m. on July 18 at the age of 42 years, seven months, and 25 days.

He was married to Miss Edna Gay Melot at Wanette, Okla. on May 21, 1935 and to this union three children were born.

The family moved to Verden from Chickasha in January 1953 and Mr. Blevins has owned and operated Blevins and Sons Garage since that time.

Mr. Blevins was a member of the First Christian Church of Verden of which he was an elder. He was also a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows and Rebekah Lodge, was fire chief of the Verden Volunteer Fire Department and was a veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife of the home and three sons, Wesley of Verden, and Tony and James Ray of the home; his mother, Mrs. Elsie Fulton of McAlester; his father, William Blevins of Jay, Okla; two sisters, Mrs. Alta Mathis of Bremerton, Washington and Mrs. Juanita Hart of Bloomfield, New Mexico; his grandmother, Mrs. Nittie King of Vinita, Oklahoma and other relatives and friends.

Edna Gay [Melot] Blevins
October 7, 1917 ~ December 1, 2020


Edna Gay Melot was born October 7, 1917 on the Potawatomi Reservation, in Wanette, Pottawatomie County, Oklahoma; one of seven children born to the farm family of Jerome Melot and Anna Isabelle [Bertrand] Melot.

Edna grew up during the Great Depression and recalled how meals were often sparse with no meat.

Edna married William Wesley "Denver" Blevins on May 21, 1935 in Wanette. They shared 23 years of marriage before his passing in 1958 and were blessed with three children, seven grandchildren, five great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

After Denver and Edna married they moved to Verden, Oklahoma where they owned and operated Blevins and Sons Garage.

Edna loved sewing and gardening and was famous for her cakes and pies.

Edna was a member of the Pentecostal Church and was active in the ladies church group. She was also a member of the Rebekahs Lodge.

Her 100th birthday was declared EDNA BLEVINS DAY! By the town of Verden.

Edna Gay [Melot] Blevins was inducted into the Centenarians of Oklahoma Hall of Fame on the occasion of her 100th birthday celebration. She lived 103 years and two months.

She shared these words of wisdom. "Have a strong faith in God and pray!"

RITES HELD MONDAY FOR JOYCE VEE BLEVINS

Joyce Vee Blevins, 9 year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Blevins,died about 4:00 o'clock Saturday afternoon at the Chickasha hospital where she had been under medical treatment for the past 10 days.

Joyce was a fourth grade pupil in Verden schools, she became ill with measles several weeks ago and other complications causing her death.

The funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 2:30 at the Baptist church with Rev. Leach, assisted by Rev. Spann, officiating.

Music for the service was furnished by Miss Adeline MaGuire, Miss Georgia Woodall. Miss Imogene Powell and Miss Louise Ransbarger sang "Asleep In Jesus," "Safe In the Arms of Jesus" and "Sweet Bye and Bye" with Miss Colita Nuernberger at the piano.

Surviving members of the family are her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Blevins; two brothers, Loyd and Buster; one sister, Faybelle, and fourgrandparents; Mr. and Mrs. L. F. Blevins of Tipton, Calif., and Mr. and Mrs. C. L. Carothers of Verden.

Casket bearers for the service were Hugh Bohannon, Edward MaGuire and Johnnie Whitley.

Interment was made in the Verden cemetery with the Hansen Funeral Home in charge.

Funeral service for Wesley Jerome Blevins, 65, of Chickasha, Oklahoma will be held at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, March 5, 2005 at the Bible Baptist Church, Chickasha.

Wesley Jerome Blevins was born September 23, 1939 in Konawa, Oklahoma and died March 2, 2005 in Chickasha.

Mr. Blevins lived in Verden for over 50 years. He owned and operated Better Construction Company.

He was a member of the Citizen Potawatomi Nation.

Mr. Blevins served in the U.S. Army Reserves. He was a member of the Grand Assembly of God Church.

He and Georgia Blevins were married, and she preceded him in death in 1991. Mr. Blevins married Linda Prichard on December 21, 2001.

He was preceded in death by his father, Denver W. Blevins in 1958.

Survivors include his wife, Linda Blevins; three sons, Andy Blevins and wife Karen and son Aaron Blevins, Neal Blevins, and Cory Blevins; mother, Edna Blevins; two brothers, Reverends Tony and Juanita Blevins, and James Blevins; four stepdaughters, Carrie Boyd, Terry Kay Williams, Patty Waggoner, and Penny Waggoner; and two stepsons, Fred Waggoner and Sam Tomlinson.

Interment will be in the Verden Cemetery under the direction of Sevier Funeral Home.

Corey Michael Blevins
September 25, 1962 ~ May 15, 2015


Cory Mitchell Blevins, 52, Verden resident, passed away Friday May 15th, 2015, in Chickasha, OK. He was born September 25, 1962, to Wesley and Georgia [Kanouse] Blevins in Anadarko, OK.

Cory was raised and attended school in Verden, graduating as Salutatorian of the class of 1980. He attended Canadian Valley Vo-Tech for a little over two years studying electronic and computer technology.

Cory worked at Maremont for seven years and then at Pizza Hut as an assistant manager for a while. He then helped his father with texturing walls until finally going to work for the Badgett Corporation as a machinist until failing health forced his retirement.

Cory enjoyed eating out and messing with computers. He really loved electronics and motorcycles.

He is survived by 2 Brothers: Andy Blevins and wife Jennifer, Verden, OK, Neal Blevins, Verden, OK, Grandmother: Edna Blevins, Verden, OK, Nephew: Aaron Blevins, Hollister, MO 2 Uncles: Tony Blevins and wife Juanita, Globe, Arizona, James Blevins and wife Shawna, Verden, OK, 6 Cousins: Randy Brown and wife Marla, Chickasha, OK, Johnny Brown, Chickasha, OK, Patricia "Sissy" Vaughn, Chickasha, OK, Kathy Melvin, Moore, OK Carlotta Vaughn, Wichita Falls, TX, Patsy Vaughn, Verden, OK.

He is preceded in death by his Parents, Paternal Grandfather Denver Blevins, and Maternal Grandparents Bennie and Hattie Kanouse.
