© The Chickasha Express-Star Chickasha, Oklahoma 14 & 15 April 2009 Leona L. [Barnett] Sparks Funeral service for Leona L. Sparks, age 84, of Chickasha, Oklahoma, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 16, 2009, in the Grand Assembly of God Church, Chickasha. Rev. Larry Hatfield will officiate with Rev. Dwain Jones, Rev. Alice Wendling and Rev. Paul Knight assisting. Leona was born the daughter of Robert Lee Barnett and Rosie Ellen Hill on April 29, 1924 in Agawam, Oklahoma. She and Virgil H. Sparks, Sr. were married on August 7, 1942 at Decatur, TX. She died in Chickasha on April 13, 2009. In addition to pioneering churches, she was an active part of First Assembly of God and Grand Assembly of God Churches. Leona was active in a downtown singles group and First Assembly Singles. She served as a cook for singles, church board members and youth at summer camps. She was known for her dumplings and cream pies. She passed these talents on to her children and grandchildren. Leona was a loving and generous mother and grandmother. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, children Virginia and Paul, sisters, Bonnie Williams and Dessie Klevins, brother Roy Barnett, son-in-law, MJ Sparks and granddaughter Sheila Sparks. Survivors include: Children: Revs. Iris and John Smith of Lexington, OK, Nella Sparks of Chickasha, OK, Gwenda and David Keel of Yukon, OK, Daniel and Vivian Sparks of Chickasha, OK, James and Renee Sparks of Chickasha, OK, Stepdaughters: Joyce Sparks of California, Donna Adams of California, Cyndee Irvine of California, Sister-in-law: Lillie Mae Barnett of Marlow, OK, Grandchildren: Leon Spotts II, Tabitha Spotts,Paul and Stephanie Bourke II, Natiya Keel, Taushayna and Scott Wright, Marissa Sparks, Kellee and David Johnson, Steve Sparks, Randy Benjamen, R.B. Adams, Ricky Sparks, Robbie Leudeke, Sheri Harley, Great-Grandchildren: Tyler, Corryn, Gabriel, M.J., Colby, Tayden, Hunter, Hayden, Jared, Carmen, and Skylar. A special cousin, Lorene Capshew, who was like a sister, numerous step-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held Wednesday, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at the McRay Funeral Home. Interment will be in the Rush Springs Cemetery, Rush Springs, Oklahoma. Service will be under the direction of the McRay Funeral Home. |
