Funeral Services For John Fletcher Norton Held Monday June 7

Funeral services for John Fletcher Norton, 70, were held Monday June 7, at the Assembly of God Church. Rev. Joe Maidwell of Butler conducted the service, assisted by Rev. Paul Gilbert, pastor.

Songs by the church choir included "Farther Along" and "Will the Circle Be Unbroken." The church quartet sang, "I'll Meet You in the Morning." Helen and Dorothy Maidwell sang a special duet.

Pall bearers were R O Gibbs, Shorty Walden, Wirt Stone, Oscar Cast, Pete Cast and Aubrey Reider.

Flower girls were: Virginia Allen and Gloria Allen, nieces of Mr Norton and Virginia Whitus, Patsy Mowdy, Pat Latham, Delores Bishop, Emma Lou Henderson, Thelma Ruth Johnson, Eula Marie Abney and Mrs. L A Mullican.

Interment was in the Rush Springs cemetery under the direction of Callaway and Mullican.

John Fletcher Norton was born October 22, 1877 at Glen Rose, Texas. He came to Oklahoma at the age of one year. He passed away Thursday, the 3rd of June, at the age of 70 years, 8 months and 12 days.

He joined the Methodist church at the age of 13 and later joined the Assembly of God Church and has lived a Christian life for many years.

In 1902 he was married to Elizabeth Duncan, and to this union three children were born; one daughter, who died in infancy, and two sons. His wife passed away in December of 1916.

He was married to Mrs. Nannie Brown on February 3, 1919 and to this union five children were born, two of whom proceeded him in death.

Survivors included his wife, Mrs. John F. Norton, Clarence of Patterson, California; Carl of Madeira, California, Mrs. Myrtle Vaughn of Sunnyside, Washington, Mrs. Annie Lou Wilkins of Rush Springs and Vernon of Marlow; 12 grandchildren, 3 great -grandchildren, 5 brothers and one sister, and a host of relatives and friends.

Theresa Anna [Lahn] Norton

Funeral for Theresa Anna Norton, 69, Lawton, will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at St. John Lutheran Church with the Rev. Richard Mayer, pastor, officiating, and Vicar Peter Guildner, assisting.

Mrs. Norton died Monday, Jan. 11, 2010, in Lawton.

Burial will be in Rush Springs Cemetery, Rush Springs, under direction of Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home.

She was born Oct. 10, 1940, in Battle Creek, Mich., to Albert and Theresa Oberneder Lahn. She grew up in and attended schools in Battle Creek, where she graduated from high school. She married Raymond L. Norton on June 24, 1962, in Battle Creek. She was a homemaker; she was talented at crocheting, a great gardener, and loved cats. She was a excellent wife and mother and an all-around great person. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church.

Survivors include her husband, Raymond L. Norton, of the home; a son, Albert D. Norton and his fiance, Sherrie Winkle, Lawton; two brothers and sisters-in-law: Wilhelm and Arlene Lahn, Battle Creek; and Robert and JoAnne Lahn, Sacramento, Calif.; a sister and brother-in-law, Clara and Jim Mullin, Bellevue, Mich.; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law including Michael and Doris Frentzos, Pamona, Calif.; Roy and Veroque June Norton, Ozark, Mo.; Pat Norton, Palm Springs, Calif.; Fray Palmer, Lawton; Mary Jones, Odessa, Texas; Carolyn and Merle Morris, Weatherford, Texas; Alvernia and Ronnie Harrison and Sam and Kathy Lake, all of Lawton; and Robbin Woycheshin, Waco, Texas; and many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews and other family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Richard Lahn.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
