Roland Nee

Roland Warren Nee, 89, passed away Friday, July 20, 2012 at his home in Rush Springs.

Services will be held at 10:00 AM, Thursday, July 26, 2012, at the Vimy Ridge Baptist Church in Rush Springs with David Hale and Dr. Joe Ligon officiating. Burial will be in the Rush Springs Cemetery under the direction of Callaway-Smith-Cobb Chapel in Rush Springs.

Family visitation will be from 6:00pm to 8:00pm, Tuesday, July 24 at the Callaway-Smith-Cobb Chapel in Rush Springs.

Roland was born Friday, October 20, 1922 in Winchester, Massachusetts, to Michael and Mary Elizabeth [Sheehan] Nee. He had lived in the Rush Springs area since 1969.

Roland grew up in Massachusetts and after graduating from high school in Wilburton, MA, he enlisted in the US Army. He proudly served his country during WWII, the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. During his career in the military from 1941 to 1971, he was stationed in Ft. Bliss, Texas, White Sands, New Mexico, Ft. Polk, Louisiana, Ft. Ord, California, Germany and Japan.

Roland was involved in several organizations including the VFW, American Legion, AARP, DAV, Shriners and the Scottish Rite. Roland was a 33rd Degree Mason and was a member of the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association, Korean War Association, Vietnam War Association, 25th Infantry Division and the Oklahoma Veteran Council. Roland enjoyed traveling and was a member of the Vimy Ridge Baptist Church in Rush Springs.

Roland was preceded in death by his parents, brother, William Nee and four sisters, Ella Needham, Olive Carson, Lillian Corcoran, and Helen Doyle.

Members of the US Army Honor Guard will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Masonic Lodge and the VFW.
