John Wesley Morris

J.W. Morris, 77, Funeral Held Here Wednesday

Funeral services for J.W. Morris, 77, was held Wednesday, from the Missionary Baptist Church with Bro. C. W. Spencer doing the preaching.

Interment was made in the local cemetery with Callaway and Mullican directing.

Mr. Morris, who had lived in and around Rush Springs for many years, died in Chickasha, where he was taken few days ago in order to be nearer his doctor. He had been seriously ill for the past few weeks.

Pall bearers at the funeral were Henry Sweaney, Tom and Bill Yeager, Claude Underwood, Haskel Bruner and Ralph Pruitt.

John Wesley Morris was born in Springfield, Illinois, on the 22nd of December, 1866. He was 77 years, 8 months and 17 days of age. He is survived by his wife, Hattie Morris, four sons and three daughters; Guy Morris, Permona, Calif.; Paul Morris, Endee, New Mexico; Effie Morre, Portland, Oregon; Blanche Bond, Rush Springs; Mont Morris, Portland, Oregon; Carl Morris, Rush Springs; Hazel Grissom, Cement; 27 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren; five sisters, Mrs. Abbie Guthrie, Dinuba, Calif.; Mrs. Virginia Madison, Fredrick; Mrs. Chess Smith, Mangum; Mrs. G.E. Key, Chickasha; and Mrs. Minnie Reeves of Chickasha.

Mr. Morris was a member of the Missionary Baptist, joining in 1922, and remained faithful until his death.

Henrietta Louise "Hattie" [Tackett] Morri

Funeral Services for Mrs. Hattie Morris Were Held Monday

Funeral services for Mrs. Hattie Morris, 85, were held at 2:30 pm Monday from the Southern Baptist Church in Rush Springs. Officiating were Rev. Hollis Morris, pastor of the New Hope Baptist Church, Enid. He was assisted by Rev. Joe Mosley, pstor of the Southern Baptist Church.

Mrs. Morris died at 10 pm Friday at the Grady Memorial Hospital in Chickasha. She was born September 19, 1881, in Texas. Her childhood years were spent in many parts of Oklahoma and Indian Territory.

She was married to John Wesley Morris on November 24, 1895.

Burial in the Rush Springs cemetery was under the direction of Callaway-Smith Funeral Home.

Five delegates and alternates her grandsons - Glen Grisson, Joe Grissom, Terrell Dorman, Paul Ray Morris, Jay Bond, and Earl Morris.

Survivors include three sons, Guy Morris of Duncan, Carl Morris of Rush Springs, and Mount Morris of Portland, Oregon; two daughters, Mrs. Harel Grissom of Ninnekah and Mrs. Blanche Bond of Oklahoma City; two brothers, Ed and Andy Tackett of Albuquerque, New Mexico; two sisters, Mrs. Florence Hatchett of San Pedro, California and Mrs. Ora Miller of Bell Flower, California; 33 grandchildren; 68 great grandchildren; and 9 great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three daughters and two sons. Her husband died in 1944.

Lena [Chitwood] Morris

Lena Chitwood Morris - Lena Chitwood Morris passed on Wednesday morning where she had undergone a serious major operation. She had been ill for the past year.

Mrs. Morris was born at Alex February 2, 1895, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. D. P. Chitwood.

She attended school at Bloomfield Seminary and Oklahoma University and was married to Pat Morris December 25, 1912. To this union was born two children, a son, Dexter and a daughter, Leslie who, with Mr. Morris, survive her passing. She also leaves the parents, six brothers, Bun and Penn of Alex, Alex of San Antonio, Texas, Bert of Fredonia, Kansas, Joe of Hebbonville and Walter of Schulenburg, Texas and one sister, Mrs. Mary Lawson of Davidson.

Funeral services have not been completed.

Julia Maye "Judy" [Laing] Morris

Julia "Judy" Maye Morris of Duncan, 79, passed away Thursday, February 2, 2017 in Duncan.

Memorial services will be held at 3:00 PM, Monday, February 6, 2017, at the Callaway-Smith-Cobb Chapel in Rush Springs, with Rev. Mike McCord and Rev. David Hale officiating. Cremation services have been entrusted to the care of Callaway-Smith-Cobb Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Marlow.

Judy was born Wednesday, November 24, 1937 in Tipton to Delmar and Emma Elymiria (Hobbs) Laing. She lived in the Stephens and Grady County area most of her life. Judy met and married the love of her life, Royce Morris, July 28, 1955 in Snyder. The couple had three children. Judy was a devoted daughter, mother and grandmother. Her hobbies included being a member of the Chickasaw Nation, spending time with friends and family. Judy managed the El Palacio restaurant for a number of years. She was a member of the Ray of Hope Church. She will deeply missed by her family.

Judy was preceded in death by husband, Royce Morris, her parents, brother, Bill Laing and brother in law, Wesley Hill.
