Louis Robert Leverett

Louis Leverett is possibly the oldest [in years of service, not in age], businessman in Rush Springs today. He has been in the barber business for some forty years.

Louis is the son of Thomas M. Leverett and Martha C Ellis.

He was born October 25, 1887 in Montague, Texas. He came with his parents to the Indian Territory at the age of five years. They settled first on a place near White Bead Hill, where his father worked for Mr W G Kimberlin, an uncle of his mother.

In 1899, he moved with his parents to Rush Springs. Here he first worked for his father in the livery business. [Mr Tom Leverett bought out the stage route from the Bailey brothers the year he arrived at Rush Springs.] He later owned a livery wagon himself. Besides this, he worked at the depot for a short period of time. In 1909, he entered the barber business and has continued in it since.

Not only has Mr Leverett been a successful businessman, but he has only been very active in the religious and civic life of the town.
